American Family Association reportedly put out an "Action Alert" about abuses of the "homosexual" minority. The above article is from www.snopes.com, a site that reports internet folklore.

...do these people have SO MUCH TROUBLE TELLING THE TRUTH? The ninth commandment seems SO CLEAR to me and so easy to follow. What part of "Thou shalt not bear false witness against your <gay> neighbors" do they not understand?

qaedon,

Thanks for posting this link and info.

The American Family Association continually misleads it's three million members. Just recently their deceptive campaign against Walmart has resulted in Walmart withdrawing support for LGBT causes.

Deliberately deceiving members of an organization is grossly unethical and the organization's leaders who support this kind of deception have compromised their integrity.

Most Americans value integrity, honesty, fairness, and concern for others. I'm sure the members of the American Family Association sincerely believe that what they've being told about the hate crimes legislation is the absolute truth. So they'll contact their legislators and request that the bill be rejected.

They will never bother to check the facts. Why should they? They've put their trust in the leaders of the AFA who claim they honor the values of honesty and trustworthiness. But what their members don't know is behind the scenes their leaders practice lies and deceit.

If the legislation is rejected by the Senate, it will be a direct result of a disrespect for American values.

Rick

Lies and deceit are the MO of the right-winged religious conservatives. Notice I did not call them "Christian". Christ-like is the last thing they are.

The spread of these lies in every way contributes to the hate crimes of which GLBT people are subject to every day.

We must get out there and continually spread the truth. The reason why the opposition must make every attempt to keep us from spreading the truth is, as Jesus said, the truth shall make all their unthinking sheep 'free' and that would be death to these religious conservative organizations (and the people that are at the forefront of them).

Very glad to see this on Snopes ... I know lots of people who use Snopes as their "go to" to evaluate the truth of all these alarming email forwards everyone sends around. It's becoming an important information source.

I guess they figure that if they confess in church, they will be forgiven the sin of lying! You know what? Lying is one of the "big ten" a comandment, being gay is not mentioned in the commandments..which do you think will get you into hotter water with the big guy?

Why so quick to judge? Haven't you read even a portion of their rebuttle (http://www.afa.net/snopesiswrong.asp)?

we stated it as a matter of fact when it should have been stated as a matter of opinion.
Potato tomato, who among us can honestly say we have the ability to distinguish between fact and opinion?

However, our opinion is based on what we have seen happen in the past to high profile individuals who criticize homosexual behavior.

So the fact that they made the special effort to clarify the-reason-for-their-opinion, shows that we can rest assured that the AFA now understands the importance of differentiating between facts and opinions.

You are so right, TDogg!!! Amen! In church on Sunday, our gay pastor who was in the forefront of the Pride Parade on Saturday night, said that he celebrated and had a great time at Pride, but somewhere on Sunday was a 16 year old being told in his/her church that Pride was sinful and an abomination and that they should work to end Pride and work to see that gays and lesbians never had any rights or privileges. He said that somewhere in this city, a gay man was dying of AIDS and his family, church and neighbors had all abandoned him, and he would die without knowing a loving God. He said that somewhere in this city, an executive had to wonder and worry if anyone saw him at Pride and if he would lose his job if someone found out he was gay. He said we had a long way to go, and come so far, but had so much more to do. He remembered in 1976 being 16 years old and watching the first Pride in San Francisco and wanted so much to be a part of it, but was afraid to come out.

There is so much misinformation, and we must be out there, not just at Pride, to tell the truth, live out God's love for us, and be honest, just, and diligent.

Preach, on TDogg, you hit the nail on the head.:applause::applause::applause:

This is why I am quick to judge them, I have visited the AFA website, and the retoric and lies make me ill. These people use ignorance and twist the Bible to their own ends to frighten people into believing gays are out to destroy society. Sure they act sorry when they get caught with their foots in their mouths (lying as usual). They HAVE to appoligize or look like fruitloops.(like Fallwell and the whole TinkyWinky/Teletubbies issue). They could print a thousand rebuttals, and still I would not believe they are truly sorry. If others want to that is their business, but I for one will take any and everything they say with a grain of salt.
I also believe that facts are gathered to form opinions, not the other way around. That is how one tells the difference between the two. I wish the AFA would use this method also.:D

Yeah, well I went to that family research website and gave them a piece of my mind. Sure it may not do any good, but I told it how it was. Their lying, deceit and idol worship of the bible is against the 10 Commandments. And I told them that Jesus would never do what they do. I also slipped in a "diabolical organization" in there for good measure.
