Please pray for these poor misguided, hate-filled people who are abusing the name of Jesus to hate GLBT people.

Gwen,
These people are not only NOT Christian, they are NOT loyal Americans. They are advocates of Theocracy (rule by a religious elite) and enemies of the constitution. I, for one, would appreciate your removing the link to their site.

If I remove the link, U-Dog, no one will have any idea what the post is about. Would it be more helpful for me just to delete the thread instead?

Oh.... I don't know Gwen. Let's see what the moderators think. It just seems like letting their toxic waste into this sacred space to me... but perhaps others disagree.

See, I find it impossible to disagree with someone named Gwynedd ... especially someone who probably picked that name for herself, yes? Proud Welshman here, loving all things Welsh ... I have a cousin by that name, though parents spelled it the English way (th instead of dd) for simplicity.

And here's a great irony ... a Rushdoony article they have posted (NEVER been a Rushdoony fan ... triumphalist goofball):
http://www.chalcedon.edu/articles/article.php?ArticleID=2741
The gist is that Rushdoony argues the gravest sin to be trying to change others, rather than change yourself. In the context of this site, priceless ... Physician heal thyself!

it's such a hard call to make. technically, our guidelines tell us that NO links to anti-gay sites are permitted. However, in this particular forum, it may be more helpful to allow such links so those who are interested may see for themselves firsthand the hatred that is out there.
perhaps it is ok in this forum, with a caveat: such links should be accompanied by a warning, and perhaps include a sentence or two in quotes so that the reader can make an informed decision as to clicking on the link.
I'll welcome other comments.

I tend to favor keeping the link. One function of Soulforce is to inform ourselves and others of the toxic rhetoric of our adversaries. The Dominionism of Mr. Rushdoony has been a significant influence on the Christian Right--awful though it is.

I think that if a person puts link in to let us know how the hate groups are operating, It can only help us understand our enemies better. Keep your friends close but your enemies closer.

Makes you wonder how long before bible lilerists see the error of their ways,Because supposedly during the "Dark Ages" they put people accused of crimes in battles in the belief that if they emerged alive then they had god on their side, and in sometime during that age a Pope saw the error of "Trial by Ordeal" and pardoned all of them.
so i think sometime in the future the fundies will see the error of their ways, because i believe that every age has a "Dark Age".

Yes, Brent, I picked that name. I am a Welsh-American - Thomas and Williams blood. Thank you. And thank you everyone for an intelligent debate about the link. As you can all see, I intended it to show psuedo-Christian, self-righteous hatred toward us and certainly not to promote those people. I am sorry if it offended anyone to have the link there.
But we have to see that such people as those have neither shame nor fear of a loving, righteous God. And our power is in courage and dignity and love even of our enemies.

I think that's a perfect way of handling it. I've tried to make it a habit of warning before linking to sites like that and/or dealing with really ugly material like with this one (now if I could just remember to do that with some of my own posts :D).
I find this one especially relevant though, which is also a factor to consider I think.
The article itself is new, and I was unaware of this site. I will definitely be keeping tabs on it.
The people of massresistence (as in Massachusetts resistence), mentioned in the article, are still sore from not having been allowed the opportunity to rescind marriage rights for gays there. The bile that they spew is about as ugly and incessant as it gets. And true to form, they attempt to veil their lies and hatred as Christian love. But nothing discredits them and their message better than being directly associated with the OPEN advocacy of Theocracy for the purpose of murdering Americans in the name of Jesus -- which Rushdoony and this site is all about.
Not that they don't have a pat answer for everything, but association with sites/articles like this one should definitely be pursued.

From the get-go, this link works on the fear that gay people are interested in only one thing: children. As though every gay person was some verson of the witch in Hansel and Gretel. It's what they always do to rally the troops. Scare people in doing what they want them to do.
My opinion is that the link should stay with the caveat that Keltic has suggested. It's ugly, but people need to know what they are dealing with.

From the website:Is she overreacting? Ms. Contrada has received several threatening, anonymous phone calls, and her home has been broken into at least once. “They know my name, my phone number, where I live, and the names of my children,” she said. “It’s really nasty.”
Now I wonder about this woman, A) How those at gay pride could know her name unless they personally knew her, B) how they could have gotten her phone number. It leads me to suspect something is amiss here. How would they know anything about her unless they know her personally, How would they have gotten all this information on her?Makes me believe she is lying unless again she knew some of these people personally, and she makes no mention of that.

Friends,
The website that is under discussion in this thread is by The Chalcedon Foundation--an organization created by the late R.J. Rushdoony. Rushdoony was an important influence on the Christian Right in the U.S. In fact, Rushdoony was financed to a significant degree by Howard Ahmanson, a wealthy supporter of the Institute for Religion and Democracy (IRD) and one of the financial backers of the "Anglicans" who are seeking to split the Episcopal Church (USA) over the ordination of Bishop Gene Robinson.
Here's a link to the Wikipedia article on R.J. Rushdoony:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/R.J._Rushdoony
(I know people seem to continually apologize that Wikipedia is not a good source--but I will vouch that the information in this article does not contradict other information I've learned in my studies of the Christian Right over the years.)
Rushdoony was an important influence on Francis Schaefer--someone Mel White writes about at some lenth in the book Religion Gone Bad
All this is just to say again that Gwenydd began this thread with a link to a website we ought to take seriously as another source of the Untruth that our adversaries use against us.

this site is offensive and un-Christian in that it refers to people as one dimensional charactures who are perverted. That is WRONG. On the other hand, just to answer the question about how this woman could be getting harassing phone calls, it does happen sometimes. The article doesn't properly indicate how or why she had these encounters...but there are brash, inconsiderate, "bad" people in both camps, so I can imagine that if she was prostelyzing in public, someone who was angry over how gay people are treated might have done some of those things. And, if these individuals frequent gay pride events, it wouldn't be unlikely for people to know this woman's name. So, that report could be credible: its the context of highlighting that to make gay individuals seem like predators that is wrong.
And, once again, I have to say: I don't think its fair to put all the blame for the split in the Episcopal church on the "Anglicans" when the diocese has closed parishes and reposessed land. It takes two to tango.
Nevertheless, this article is simply despicable in its portrayal of gay individuals.

lol, I'm reading that very book right now! It's really informative and I love it. Too bad I got it from the library and I don't own it. I did buy a book from the library about free speech though. That's the name of the book too. "Free Speech"

I find his bullship unsettling.
It did make me wonder how to set up a gay straight alliance in our public school though.
Any suggestions?
