Out of the 14 houseguests on Big Brother 8, why is there only one African-American person?

The racial diversity and integration on this show is poor and disgusting.

At least 5 of the houseguests' ethnicity should be something other then White.

I don't know what the casting director and/or producer of Big Brother is thinking but they are not thinking about the importance of racial diversity and integration.

Future seasons of Big Brother as well as other CBS shows need to be ethnically balanced, diverse and integrated.

There are 2 gay guys on Big Brother 8. There may be more. That is a good thing.

However, they could have put a gay African-American person on. Why are there 13 White people and just 1 African-American person?

Perhaps there just aren't that many shallow, fame-starved African-Americans willing to participate in a reality show that eventually forces all the participants to become petty, greedy, money-grubbers at the expense of other human beings.

This is true too. I would have to agree with you on that point K. However, I do agree that there needs to be more diversity, a broader representation. I dont watch the show, cant really stand those type of "reality shows". LOL reality shows, reality is getting a job, paying taxes and raising a family, not fighting over who should be kicked out this week. Anyway I digress. How many other ethnic groups have been represented on this "show"? It is just what americans want to see, they dont want to see a group of culturally diverse people on tv. They want to see "themselves" there and how can they do that with a bunch of other races staring back at them? I am of course generalizing when I say "americans", I am not speaking of everyone.

HEY... my boyfriend and I LOVE that show. Mainly because it is so corney... But that goes to show you how we as americans will do anything to get on tv. Look at Fear Factor. I mean really, eat deer penis or any of the other disgusting things, for what...$50 grand? Come on, thats only about $27 grand after the government gets their hand in your pocket.

lol, keltic, Ain't that the truth. So many of these reality shows are all about lack of moral values, be it Big Brother or Survivor. It's who can lie, cheat and screw over the most. The only reality show I've seen that has any moral value to it is Extreme Makeover, Home Edition, which gets the communities involved in helping one another, not screwing over each other.

I think Big Brother & Survivor all speak to the deterioration of values that is pravalent in today's society. I usually watch the opening session on each in hopes that perhaps there might be someone with some substance on the program, but clearly substance is not a virtue that either of these shows encourages.

What's not awesome is that out of 14 people there is only 1 African-American person in the Big Brother 8 House. The rest of the people in the Big Brother 8 House are White. There are no Asian people or Hispanic people. That's sad!
