Hi Justin!
Glad to have you here on Soulforce!
Being true to yourself is no mistake. I admire your courage! You will find a great bunch of folks here who are supportive and understanding. There is great love for you out in the world. A big city with a Gay community may be the right thing for you. Travel around and experience different places!

My thoughts are that perhaps what you really want is a place with the advantages of a big city, and a small town, at the same time. It can be done.
I find that in Minneapolis, mostly because I've spent most of my life here, but I have also found it in Madison, Wisconsin. In Madison, whether you are gay or straight is of absolutely no importance, unless someone actually wants to bed you. The mayor has been seen in the Cardinal, although both the mayor, and the bar are gone, now. -- My Church:

As you have probably guessed, I am not all that well travelled, but you are young, you have plenty of time. Have you ever thought of San Francisco?

Hi Justin, Welcome!
Well, if Justin wants to be a theater actor, he pretty much needs to be in NYC. Or maybe Toronto? Or LA - but I think that's less stage and more film.
Anyway - came out at 15!!! WOW! You have guts. I admire your courage.

I found my way to NYC at the age of 29 and have had a career in the arts. NYC is expensive! As is any major city. If you don't mind some friendly advice from one who's been around the block a few times:
1) Work on your craft- singing- dancing- acting- playing the piano. Get all that you can from your teachers. And get the best teachers you can afford.
2) Find out what you do better than anyone else.
3) Figure out a way to survive while you are pursuing your life in the arts. ie ...Learn how to type really well. Learn computer skills etc. Acquire skills that you can take with you anywhere. You will need them!
4) It's called show 'business' for a reason. The more business skill you have (marketing yourself etc) the more sucessful you will be.
5) You have to make your own luck, which means being prepared (know the role in the play, opera etc) when opportunity come knocking. I can't tell you how many careers have been made because of this one aspect.
welcome just59hill,
I think that's pretty sage advice from Daniel, born out of experience (seems the best kind to me). Good for you for having a dream and dreaming big.
As with u-dog, I have two sons a bit older than you, so a fathers heart here. For what it's worth to you: success is measured by what you do in secret.
best wishes

Hi Justin
Welcome to soulforce. There are many with different experiences who are willing to share and support.
I'm glad your parents are accepting, and partially supportive. Its good to have some connection with family. Many here seem to have lost that when they came out.
God be with you in your plans, group hug with you and Kenny, my children are both younger than you, but at least you know who you are and where you'd like to go.
Love and Hugs
