hello.
my name is meg. i am a theology student in texas, and began to come out 2 years ago. i have been a part of a "support group" for people wanting to "come out" of homosexuality, but have in the past few months accepted my sexuality as a lesbian and am finally at peace and rest in life. it's been too long. that having been said, i'm still quite new on this journey, and am still surrounded mainly by people who disagree with me, and that's hard.

So you're not only a "nut" but a "fruit" as well? ;)

Well, that's fine by us! Welcome to the forum Meg!! And whenever you are logged on here... you are surrounded by people who will like you just the way you are!! (though we can't promise to agree with you ALL OF THE TIME!)

Welcome Meg,

You've found a safe place.

Dave - stop talking about nuts and fruit - you're making me hungry.

Welcome Meg! What denomination are you a part of? Are you going after an M.Div degree?

Be sure to check out the videos (http://www.soulforce.org/article/1277) from our recent Ex-Gay Survivor's Conference. Or maybe take a look at www.BeyondExGay.com

The Soulforce forums bring together a pretty diverse group from different backgrounds, but I'm sure you'll find folks you can really connect with.

Come visit us, and post any time. In Minneapolis, I know of many churches and other religious organizations that are open and affirming, and many out clergy. Check out my home church:

in response to jamie's post, i'm pursuing an MA in theology. i will write a thesis and head towards working in a theological publishing company, i hope. i grew up in the churches of christ, but am now exploring the episcopal church, and will likely "convert." i feel at home there, and i can be myself.

I'm one of several Episcopalians who haunt the Soulforce forums. Like you, I am not a cradle Episcopalian, but grew up in the Roman Catholic Church. I, too, was in seminary, but left, and then found the Episcopal Chruch a place where I could be comfortable. (That was nearly 40 years ago when no churches officially welcomed gay people. The Episcopal Chuch certainly had its share of us, though, and most people didn't mind unless you made an issue of it.)

Sadly, the ECUSA is not without its own struggle over the place of GLBT people in the church and the ministry. But the parish where I worship is wonderfully welcoming. Check us out here (http://www.allsaintsw.org).

Again, welcome.

I'm a theology student (MDiv) in Texas, too! Let's chat sometime...shoot me an email or PM.

Take care! :)

I almost wanted to write Nutmeg- but that would be rather rude, would it not? My apologies. I'm just wondering if someone in your family has used that as an endearment?

The last 15 years I've been singing in Episcopal churches and my hubby is an organist in one right now. The Episcopal church appeals to me too.

I'm so glad you've found your way here. There are many wonderful people on this forum.

I follow you totally on picking one's own name. Better that we define ourselves than others. :D

Oh boy....I'm in a pickle. I haven't been going to church in a while since I 'retired' from church singing, but I will be at hubby's parish in the Bronx- the Tiffany Church- St. James in the Bronx on Sunday. I hope that redeems me!

If you want to stay in Manhattan, St. Lukes in the Fields has a vibrant gay persence, but then, most Episcopal churchs in NYC do. Many have social groups for gay parisioners.

For music, I really like Church of the Ascension on 5th Avenue. Divine choir. Great pastor. Very affirmative.

For shere Angophile bang-for-your-buck- nothing can top St. Thomas on 5th Avenue with the whole she-bang, boychoir and all. Though I read a curious news item recently about how the gay parishioners there are not pleased with the views of the rector. ;)

And of course, the place of all places to visit is St. John the Divine in Morningside Heights. What a place! The largest Gothic Cathedral in the world.

Of course, I'm leaving out a dozen or so that are great too. I sang for many years at a small church in the Village called St. John's in the Village.

You will find a home here, I am sure. And when you come, let me know. We'll do lunch. :)

Polly used to go to St Ignatius on the upper Westside (Broadway somewhere in the mid 80's) whenever she needed a hit of "smells and bells" Easter Vigil was amazing there.

This space is SO BIG it has its own weather. I still wish they would finish the towers... social justice is all well and good but a building that takes a century to complete has an important witness to make also. PLUS St John the Divine is right across the street from the HUNGARIAN PASTRY SHOP and V&T Pizza!!!

Hi, Meg! That's my name, too. Though I tend to go by Megs. And my full name is Megan... is that yours, or are you just Meg? Or Margaret? Sorry, I'm being nosy.

Anyway! Hi, and a great big welcome from one kitchen spice to another.
