Thanks for the birthday wishes! I'll be 49 at 10:05 AM.

To celebrate my penultimate year to the big 50, Hubby and I are taking the train to Hudson New York in the AM, to do some antiquing and see Olana, the amazing Persian style house built by the famous Hudson River School painter, Frederic Edwin Church. I've wanted to see it for years. It's my kind of place: lots of style, old world, over the top, and full of color.

http://www.olana.org/

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frederic_Edwin_Church

I'm up late because I'm either excited or had too much of that bar of Valrhona chocolate that's been laying around here.

Life is sweet!

I feel blessed to count myself among you, and doubly blessed to have met several of you in the flesh. That's been wonderful- and life changing.

Love to you all! You are in my heart.

~

Addendum- I see that I've just topped 2000 posts! Egads! How did that happen?!!!

Daniel,

I hope your have a GREAT birthday!
(We will have to get busy now and plan something really big for the big 50th celebration.)

And I just want to let everyone else know that Daniel was the very first person to respond to something I had posted. You can blame him for everything I've said since.

Thanks for the birthday wishes! I'll be 49 at 10:05 AM.

You’re like me, I have to count it down to the minute. I usually sleep through it anyway though. (And mine's at 3:46 pm )

From another thread but relevant:
Ya know what? Daniel, you really do look 12-15 years younger than your chronological age.

That’s exactly what I was going to say. I’m 38 and you look younger than me!

I don't know why, you just seemed like the Betty Boop type. ;) (I'm assuming this is from her lesbian "phase...")

Thanks everyone! And I love the boys with balloons coming out of their pants and Betty Boop!

Thanks for all the love and good wishes!

Here's some pics from Olana. We saw the house twice. The first day was a bit cloudy, which you can see in the first pic. You can see from the pics that the place is quite amazing. Unfortunately, what I can't show you is the interior- it's just jaw dropping. The detail is astounding. And the colors that Church used for the interior decoration (walls, ceilings, doors are extensively stenceled) are vivid and unusual. The main hall alone uses over a dozen different colors. And the entrance hall alone brought a smile to my face with its purple walls and ochre ceiling.

The house sits at the top of a hill which has a spectacular view looking south. And the lake below was once swampy ground that was cleared out by hand. We walked down the hill, through the woods, to the lake, along the original path.

The first pic shows the house as it faces south, and the second pic shows the view from that vantage point.

The last image is of a painting that hangs in one of the rooms. Seeing it upclose was something else. It's quite mysterious and mystical. The scene is of a building in 'Petra', the ancient city that is located in the desert amidst hills and rocks.

Very Twilight Zone ... I was just telling someone earlier today how much I'd like to see Petra ... I'm told it's amazing.

Happy birthday, Daniel! We're almost twins. :D

We're almost twins, astrologically speaking, but I'm odd enough to be your father! That some womb separation!

I like being a Cancer. My grandmother and a sister are Cancer's. And a former boyfriend is a Cancer. Surrounded with them! Water signs galore!

And you have a great proflie pic btw. Your smile is just radiating joy!

Great pictures, Daniel!! :D

The lake is excessively idyllic. Did you just want to sit there forever?? I would have...

(what a sexy pic of your husband too...);)

What a difference a letter makes (this is why most of my posts are edited- I have to go back and edit myself). And look who's talking! I though you and Andy had the market cornered on backhand insults! :D

Yes. The place made me realize that we don't get outside enough. The Transcendentalists were on to something. Nature changes one. The walk down the hill- through the woods- was wonderful, the arrival at the lake being the icing on the cake.

A great place for a picnic and a good book.

Daniel - being a Cancer is great! *gives you a claws-up* And don't worry, age is one of those "outward appearances" things that doesn't really matter. We're still almost-twins. ;)

Dave - Well, this IS me we're talking about. And my real dad IS pretty odd. So... Daniel wasn't too far off.

Mmmmm, so right. There is a good energy outside among trees, etc.

That's the one sucky thing about living where I do. . . you can't spend time outside :( (cough, gasp, nosebleed, dizzy, faint, heat exhaust. . .)
