hi everyone,

this organization caught my eye after i had seen video of their involvement in promoting awareness and discussion about the lgbt community at byu.

i'd just like to say that i really appreciate what this organization is doing. though i am an athiest, i was raised in the lds church and experienced first-hand how hurtful people can be. after feeling betrayed by those closest to me- after experiencing both physical and emotional harassment- after being left homeless and driven to the point of suicide--- i've was filled with anger towards those who made me feel like i was somehow less of a human being.

i've come to a point in my life where i've learned to forgive the actions of those who hurt me. the actions they chose were a merely a result of a lack of understanding. they were afraid. they didn't know how to react when someone who was so close to them came out as a gay man.

i came so close to the unthinkable... and my heart is filled with sadness when i reflect on those who have actually gone through with it. no one should have to feel like they don't belong. no one should have to feel like life is no longer worth living. promoting awareness is the only way i see to cure the social bigotry that has destroyed so many lives in and around the lgbt community.

i am proud of what this organization does. and, if possible, i would very much like to offer my support to them.

amicalement,
christian

Hi, Christian! Welcome! I'm Megs. It's nice to meet you. It IS wonderful to have someone out there gently prying the razor blades out of our fingers, isn't it?

Hope to see you around the forum.

Glad you found your way here. We are a diverse group spiritually, representing a lot of different spiritual paths, but we are mostly gentle with each other and you will find likeminded persons here on most issues. feel free to jump in any time!

Christian, you have done a lot of work to get to this point of being able to forgive those who hurt you and were so unjust. That you can see their fear beneath their hatred is truly a gift. I believe it is a spiritual gift and that those who have this gift are often called to be peacemakers in a powerful way.

I'm glad you found Soulforce and I pray for your continued healing. Many of us share your deep sadness for those who did not find hope or acceptance in time to help them.

Welcome!
Polly

Welcome Christian! I'm glad that you found us!

I see you're 19, it's nice to have more younger people around... after all every now-and-then, although they're normally very kind, U-dog or Pablo or some one like that will feel the great need to say something unkind towards the younger generation, but with more of us, it's easier to turn things back around on them;)

Glad you're here! :)

Christian- Welcome.

I don't know you at all, but it occurs to me that your are well beyond your years as far as forgiveness is concerned. I think I'm still chewing on some of that stuff. :D

Glad you are here and hope you make your acquaintance on other threads.

Into the Woods, Sondheim ... Little Red Riding Hood's song after being rescued from the belly of the wolf. This is my favorite musical, and one of my favorite quotes from it ... I use it all the time.

care to add the Act and Scene numbers?

It often pops into my head when I hear someone say "nice".

I'll be mounting a production of that musical next spring for our local community theater.
