hello everyone... My name is Jessica and after some search-engine findings I found soulforce. It is a very interesting and self-confident website. I came across this website becuase I was searching for answers to an issue I was having with my boyfriend and his family in a previous post called ignorance so if you get a chance read it and let me know what you think. I was born and raised in Houston all my life. I have been a a full-time transexual for 4 years now and am loving it. I am finally happy with myself and face new challenges now. I can say it is a lot easier than being gay though. I still have more soul searching to do as I am trying to be one with God. This website has made me feel as if there is hope. I am glad I found this website and am eager to learn more. I love being social and learning new things. I have two jobs: one as a dispatcher at a hospital and another as a service aide for the mental health and mental retarded. I enjoy both jobs and plan on going back to school soon to finish my degree in psychology. Thanks for making me a part of your family and I hope I can also offer words of encouragement and advice to you all also. Talk to you all later! buh-bye

Jessica- I read the other thread you've mentioned here. You've seen some hard stuff in your young life girlfriend! I'm so sorry you've had to put up with the conservative views of your boyfriend's family.
Honey- you haven't done anything wrong. We all make the choices we want to make, either out of fear or love. I have no doubt that you love this guy, but something tells me that there is little you can do at the moment about his situation. His family has made some bad choices. That's for sure. And plain and simple, you didn't cause your beau to have a stroke. I know you may not feel this way right now, but that's the truth.
I think your goal of studying psychology is great. I would focus on the future at this point- without forgetting the past. You will come to understand what's happened in this situation in time.
Please be good to yourself. It sounds like you have a heart of gold.

Thanks for the reply to my posting. I greatly appreciate it.. Yes I have been through a lot and still am. I wont feel complete til I am around 26 and finally settled down in the town of my dreams with the man of my dreams. I should be done with all my major goals in life and overcame many obstacles in life. I feel as if I have been through much more than the average 22 yo should go through but it only makes us more stronger and more wiser. I dont regret any of the things that I have done I just wish that others as well as myself would just learn from them.

I just want to say hello and tell you that we are glad you are here.
I firmly believe that God has created all manner of people and that all of us are valuable and loved. I also find these forums a place of hope. I see hope for the future. You who are younger have more opportunities to be free and open about who you are than we "older" LGBT individuals did when we were your age.

Welcome to Soulforce, Jessica. I am transgender and transvestite but I have a special place inside for transsexuals. I am so happy to you are comfortable with who you are. I'll be getting my bachelor's degree in December (childhood education) so I wish you the best in your pursuit of a degree.

I need a quick lesson. I thought I understood this but now I'm confused. Gennee or Jessica, could you give me a quick 'primer' on the differences between
a. transexual
b. transgender
c. transvestite
??? ???

a- transexual is more of a full-time crossdresser in a way. a male or female who lives the life as the opposite but still has all of its original body parts down there...
b. transgender is someone who is going through the process of becoming the opposite sex then the person originally was.
c. transvestite- now there is pre-op or post-op. Pre-op is someone who is going through the process of having the sex change to fully be the opposite sex than originally. Post-op is someone who has had all operations and is now the opposite sex.
crossdressers and drag queens also fall under the category of transgender.
hope I helped you out sweetie! :magic:

Welcome, Jessica!
It's great to have you with us! I read your other thread too, and you certainly have my sympathy for your difficult and complicated challenges.
Is there a chapter of PFLAG in your area? Along with support you might find here, it seems like it could be helpful to also have supportive people to meet with in person ... people who might have experience with the issues and concerns you raised.
By the way ... regarding those definitions that you listed above ... as you know, those terms can be confusing, and sometimes it seems as though everyone has different definitions for those words, and all the variations in between.
Not that I'm an expert or anything, but it looks like you accidentally switched #a with #c ... LOL : )
TransVESTite ... relates to clothing (vests, vestments)
TranSEXual ... relates to sexual body parts (hormones, surgery)
TransGENDER ... relates to gender identity (sometimes used as an umbrella term to include all of the gender related variations, sometimes not ... depends on whom you ask)
If anybody here has another take on this, please post accordingly!
Thanks, Jessica ... for sharing your personal experiences with us ... you're in our thoughts and prayers ... please keep us posted, OK?
Hugs & Love,
Sherrie Z

hey sherri...I understand what you are talking about.....transexual are people who are going through the process but are not quite pre-op yet.....they can just be on HRT (hormone replacement therapy) when the begin to have SRS (sexual recontructive surgery) they become pre-op. hope it cleared some issues....but thats the way i found out by researching
