I am a huge fan of the CBS reality show Big Brother. This season on Big Brother 8 there are 13 White people and 1 African-American person. I am offended and disgusted by this continual racism and lack of diversity on TV. CBS is the worst! NBC, ABC and even Fox are making an effort to be more diverse in the casting of their shows. It's apparent that CBS doesn't even try to make an effort to be more diverse in the casting of their shows.
My disappointment and anger made me write a letter to all of the network executives at CBS. We all have to do something to PUSH for change. Diversity is not just going to happen by itself we have to do something to make it happen. I am sharing with you the letter that I wrote to the network executive at CBS.
You can go to www.CBS.com to see what the network executives at CBS look like. When you see who they are, you'll see why CBS is the worst network when it comes to diversity in their casting.
When you go to CBS.com, scroll down to the bottom of the page. Click on the link that says, "CBS Corporation." When that window pops up, click on the space that says, "OUR COMPANY." Under "OUR COMPANY," click on "DIVISIONS." You'll see the different divisions of CBS. You'll want to click on the "CBS Entertainment" and "CBS Corporation" divisions. After you click that, click on "Executives."
Here is what I wrote to the executives of CBS!

To CBS Executive,
I noticed that on the CBS.com website there is a section about diversity. That is a facade and CBS is not serious about diversity.
CBS' reality show BIG BROTHER 8 is not diverse. Out of the 14 houseguests on BIG BROTHER 8, why is there only one African-American person? The racial diversity and integration on this show is poor, lacking and disgusting. At least 5 of the houseguests' ethnicity should be something other then White. I don't know what the casting director and/or producers of Big Brother are thinking but they are not thinking about the importance of racial diversity and integration on TV. Future seasons of BIG BROTHER as well as other CBS shows need to be ethnically balanced, diverse and integrated.
The CBS soaps blatantly do not honor diversity. I do watch GUIDING LIGHT and AS THE WORLD TURNS. Where are the people of color? People of color are: African-Americans, Hispanic-Americans, Asian-Americans, Middle Eastern American and Native American people. I've seen one "token" African-American person briefly on GUIDING LIGHT and AS THE WORLD TURNS. There needs to be greater diversity of people of color on the CBS soaps than there currently is. There needs to be people of color in contract roles on the CBS soaps. Ethnic characters need to be intricately involved in the soap storylines and storylines need to revolve around characters of color.
Many people of color watch BIG BROTHER and the CBS soaps. As far as advertising goes, people of color spend money. People of color are not being served and represented by CBS.
I have heard casting directors say that they are trying to do better about casting people of color. Well, they are not doing enough! You all need to stop talking about diversity and actually activate diversity. Actions speak louder than words! Just do it!
I know that one of the problems with this lack of effort to put people of color on CBS TV is that most of the CBS executives and people on the board of directors are older White men. That fact needs to change!
The CBS audience is aging. CBS needs a new audience. The new CBS audience is people of color. People of color want to see themselves on TV. You're not going to acquire that audience by just portraying White people on CBS TV.
Sincerely,
