This is a story that needs to be shared. Donte Warren-Smith, one of the Equality Riders, is not able to be on the remainder of the ride. His heart for justice issues extends well beyond his own equality as a gay man.

Some of you are likely familiar with the School of the Americas. If not, you need to be.

When Soulforce volunteers have been arrested for civil disobedience, the longest jail term was 36 hours. There are other consequences of course, a hefty fine and having to anwer yes on all future job applications to the question "Have you ever been arrested."

Standing up to the School of the Americas, however, brings a prison sentence of 3-6 months. Donte's faith compelled him to do that. Let his commitment to justice challenge and inspire you.

It was a pleasure to see Donte in Lynchburg last week. He is a great example and hero. Love you Donte!

Thanks for the info, guys. I just emailed Donte and some other riders to wish him well. I never knew about SOA but now feel informed and angry. God Bless you Donte, and be well.

For the last 2 years I have written to SOA demonstrators in jail. The most moving response I got was a 2 pp letter from a nun who was in El Salvador, a sister in the religious order of the nuns who were slain in the 70s. She has gone to Columbus every year since the death of the women. In the last 2 years the sentencing has gotten harsher.

I would love to write to Donte. Can you post his jail address or private email it to me?

Thanks,
T J
