Hi , I am a straight Christian from the UK but I deeply believe that Jesus's example means that if you describe yourself as one of his followers you need to be tolerant , even when your social upbringing makes it difficult to do so ! (Both grandfathers were miners and I still live in the town of my birth which is Blue Collar through and though ;))
I am greatly offended by the Religious Right's hijacking of Christianity and am trying to find ways of counteracting it. If you are interested there is a link to my website in the General Chat area.
Congratulations on a well presented and thoughtful community.

Thanks Skylark! Glad to have you around. Stick around and join our conversation. We like progressive straight folks here. We like open and affirming conservative straight folks also (and surprisingly enough we have some posting here! go figure.)

My ancestry is all in the collieries of Northern Wales ... my grandfather made the break to both get out of mining and come to the US. First one, thank God! Second one, I'm happy here, but sure I could be happy there, too ... love my Welsh heritage. Where are your miners from?

North Wales - Point of Ayr is the only one I know.
My family are from the West Midlands, grandparents were Cannock Chase colliers but there's a bit of Derbyshire, Yorkshire, Black Country and a little bit of Welsh (:o) in there as well. Miners are absoloutely wonderful people (should say were as all the pits have closed) and I am fiercely proud of my heritage but seeing the other person's point of view does not often figure high on their list of priorities.
Cheers

Of course if you didn't have a mining heritage which gives you the right to say the above we'd have to meet on the car park afterwards ;).
Glad you still see the funny side of things my view is that yo never forget where you came from but always try to remember where you want to go .
