and now I think I need to call the doctor.

I attended one of those choral clinics which is really just a big review of newly published choir music. There were about 300 there, and we sang from 9am-4pm.

I've been having a sore throat/sinus problem for a week or 2, and today I realized just how much trouble I'm in if I don't get it checked before school starts.

*sigh*

And I mean SHUT UP!

Vocal rest for you! DO YOU HEAR ME?!!!!!!!

Singing when one has a cold can be a spendid way to hurt your vocal folds. Anytime there is soreness in your throat singing is a no no. It means something isn't right. Sinus drip can be the cause of it.

Four suggestions.

1) Drink warm fluids. (no caffeine)

2) Practice breathing with a slight aspirant sound (in yoga circles this is called ujjayi breathing). Pretend you are Dark Vardar. Breath in and out like this for 5 minutes. Slowly. This helps the folds find their correct tension again. Oversinging makes the folds unable to contract properly.

3) Gargle with a solution of warm water and salt.

4) Sleep. The best restorative.

~

Healing thoughts to you!

The singing doc has spoken. Now make that two: vocal rest, dude, vocal rest. Your cords are probably swollen and nothing but shutting up will get the swelling down.

Warm herbal tea, water, rest, sleep, and NO TALKING!

Hmm... I guess I know what you mean, I didn't realize Spurs were a team until you used it long enough in context

I loved basketball when I could watch by brother playing with his friends... but otherwise, I just don't get the big deal.

Umm... Washington isn't bad, but I'd be nice if it would warm up a bit more, after all it is August seem like we deserve at least some real heat before fall sets in. This winter especially was freezing and wet and winding and I think everyone was getting real sick of it (the 7 days without power really got on people's nerves). But over all, not so bad, not so wet... the water that we do get and all the water we are surrounded by makes this place beautiful!

So how old were you when you moved to Texas?

So a violent side huh? :shifty:I know what you mean though, looking like you can't do anything then exceeding everyone’s expectations is fun!

Hmm... if I had to choose a sport I would say swimming, hands down... I LOVE swimming. Makes you feel stronger, healthier and everything else good... or at least for me it does.

So what about a board game? Do you have a favorite?
Are you interested in traveling? If so what would be the first place you would want to go?

(again, remember, if anyone else wants to help you can jump in too... just start answering questions and/or ask new ones)

You thinking of jenga or just something like it? Sounds really close, but I can't think of where the sticks came from.

I love monopoly! I played the Seattle version the other day with my sister and friend and my friend ended up beating me by $7 (we just counted what we had because we were done playing).

I also like Guess Who although I always wish that it was a little more challenging... more options.

So do you not like travel then? What do you like to do in your free time?

I'm sorry haha, never traveled, only from LA to SA, we never had the money to travel, but I'm not too excited to travel haha, sounds boring but thats wat it is, now that I think about it we did go to corpus christi one time, that was fun, but I got so much darker from that one time we went , but hey dark is good no?, on my free time I usually just help around the house, don't have anymore friends they stopped talking to me, but what can I do? Also like to write stories, but I never finish any of them, I get bored of writing, and I just stop. Hey jen, I'm goin to sleep, sry I only have a little bit of time to talk, but tomorrow I got the day off, I'll try to make it on cuz we got church tomorrow all day, I don't mind but sometimes I get real hungry haha, and the only thing to eat is some paletas this guy sells outisde haha.

I actually can't even imagine not loving the idea of travel. Washington is home number six for me. Plus any time I have the chance I want to go where-ever I can, so far that has kept me in the US but it's something.

I also can't believe that you don't have a ton of friends... you seem like a cool kid. You must not live in the best area or something. Because there are always potential friends out there.

If you like to write you should try not to give up so quickly...

Well anyway.... good night. :smurf:

(come on people... someone else needs to help me... we only just hit page two.. we can do better then this...)

We really do love you Uncle StevE... you can join in if you like! Just so long as you don't read anything out loud you'll be fine... just type

Do you enjoy church? I can't remember the last time I willing went to church and enjoyed it. My dad was a pastor and turned out to be a complete jerk that my mom, brother, sister and I won't talk to anyone. If it weren't for the pastors on these forums I don't think I'd still be able to stand them. You like church though??

doctor is out of town, but the office talked to him for me, and he called in a prescription for amoxicillin. I also bought a nasal rinse (not quite a neti pot, but those aren't readily available here) I had a fever last night, and I even had a nap this morning. Did I mention the upset stomach caused by the post-nasal drip? I'm falling apart here.

Oh awesome!! Mine broke last year & I'm in desperate need of one! Saline nasal spray doesn't work quite as well. And neti pots don't grow on trees in this part of the valley, though I'm sure they're hiding somewhere.

It's not quite a neti pot, but it looks like it will do the same thing. I boiled some water, since I didn't have any distilled water, and I'm cooling it now.

I also had some chicken soup.

But yea, church is amazing, I signed up for choir, cuz God and Jesus are the only ones that meke me feel like singing, and I was like why not sing in their name? I used to be like that too, but I realized it one night, when I was alone with my problems on my back, I looked up, asked God why? Why? Why? Why me? Why do you have to put me through this? And I remembered what he promised me, God promised me a better life, and that night I decided that I was tired of doing things to make me feel like there was nothing wrong with me, I was tired of going every night to the kitchen and begging and crying for the strength to do the unimaginable to myself, I said, God I'm tired of this, I'm tired of all of it, I just want to feel loved by someone again, I want to feel that I mean something that I wasnt just born to suffer, I realized then what God did for me, he sent his loving so to die for me, to embrace me, to save me from loneliness, fro pain. And that's why I love church, they can tell me this and that, but I know, God loves me, and the least I can do to thank him is stay in church and listen to his word on a sunday, I can be doing anything else, but I like to at least take that time to thank him deeply for what he and Jesus christ have done for me, they've given me back my life :D

See, I kind of have the opposite feeling about church. My family has been chewed up and spit back out by the church. Before coming to Soulforce, I could only think of one person that I had ever heard of that really was "christian" and he was in a different state. (literally)

Never had any desire to be that thing that people called "christian" because as far as I could tell... I can do just as much good from where I'm standing... but these church people seem to have a pattern of doing harm.

(alright... sorry.. just stating how I see it)

I dont blame you for tinking like that, they do, but you can be a change in that pattern, right? You could be what YOU think is a christian, what you believe, I say let them act the way they believe you must act, and I'll act the way I believe I have to act. Cuz it all comes down to you in the end, in the end you have to do what you know is right, and in the end you'll have to act the way you know you have to act. They can be what you know are bad christians , but you know what? show em how its done and show em what a real christian is haha, they think they right, showem they wrong. Thats what I say and what I know

I understand what you mean. I'm still very far from wanting to be a christian... but it's true that they aren't all the same.

El Charomm,

If you are a Christian... then I am PROUD to call myself one too!! To be able to go to a church that condemns gay people, suck up the REAL gospel, strain out the crap, and leave happy at YOUR AGE shows that you are an amazingly mature spirit! Thanks for your testimony about the Grace of Jesus Christ! I want to be like you when (if) I grow up! ;)

God is Good...

If the anti-gay stuff starts to get you down... be sure to come back here for love and spiritual backup OK?

You have a LOT figured out already. There are people 3 times your age who still haven't. Made me sad to think of you wanting to do something "unimaginable" to yourself, and I'm glad you haven't hurt you. Very glad. You are an incredible person and have so much good to bring to the world.

I'm feeling better this afternoon. I wasn't sure about this morning. But I did manage to get out of bed, get a shower, take my daughter to work, and I forced myself to do a few things. I put some clothes in the washer and dryer, and I went to my beautiful flower garden and cut some flowers and put them in a vase. It's way too hot out there, so I'm inside, and I think I'll just sit around for a few more hours. Don't want to push it.

Glad you're feeling a little better. Definitely don't push it! That's a way to wind up with a relapse that will last longer than the initial illness.

Fresh flowers - way to enliven the room. You keep resting and enjoy the flowers. (What kind of flowers?)

Hmmm I have one...two, three...four other siblings. None are fully realted to me.
Taylor at 17 by my dad
Kennedy at 7 by my dad
Micheal at 4 by my dad
and Jonah at 13 by my mom

I used to live in Cali till I was eight but i was born here in Oregon. We moved to the middle of nowhere because ofthe cost of living in California.

Moving? Well yeah I'm excited but at the same time dissapointed. Everything here was just so set up for me and I've never really been in busy places for long periods of time. That and I'll miss my friend, dearly. I know we'll stay in touch but still.
She dropped on me so fast do to other family issues. That's the main reason for the move. To just get away from our problems out here, if only life was that simple. Personally I'm just open to the new experience. Tigard sounds fun.

Same questions back Jen, and anyone else.

Sounds like we already have a lot in common... yikes...

Umm... siblings... seems like such a simple question... depends on how you count 'em

I have my sister, Summer, and she's 14 months younger... we do everything together.

My brother and probably one of my favorite people in the world, he's technically a half brother on my mom's side.

Then I have a half sister who's 19 on my dad's side, Abby.... but don't talk to her anymore.

Then half brother on my dad's side who's 37, Colter... but I've only ever met him twice.

Now... I technically I might have 2 little step-siblings, but I don't really have any idea because I don't and won't talk to my dad and I have no idea when the wedding is/was.

---

In terms of differnent questions to do with moving... I love to move. I feel some what trapped because I've lived here for the last five years. Before this was Manteca CA for a year and a half. Berkeley CA for two and a half years. Otis OR for 4 and a half years. Then before I can even remember there was Colville WA and Forest Ranch CA... to me moving has always been exciting.

lol it's okay. Do you play any sports? I have issues with communication.
Sports... I'd love to play sports but I'm a HORRIBLE runner... but I LOVE swimming. I really wish WA was a place for a swimming pool, but it far from it.

What about you??

I apologize... I can't think of a good question... I'll come up with something...

Wow we do have a lot in common as far as family goes! I don't really talk to my father either. It's more a wicked step-mother thing but I hate to play the Cinderella story. lol
That's good that you're close to sister and brother. Siblings are so important in the end.

That's quite an agenda for moving about. Which place did you enjoy the most?

Swimming, a bunch of my friends swim and we take a trip to the lake every summer and in fact I leave thursday with them. So are you on a Water Polo or Swim team at school or anything?

Sports? ha ha, what don't I do is a better question. If it's fast and dangerous usually I'm first to sign up. My favorite is Motocross and roller skating. If I'm not doing them everyday then something is wrong. lol

Do you have any pets? A myspace? Play any music? Oh what about favorites, like bands and colors?
That should keep you busy. lol

I liked different things about each place. Otis, I liked probably just because it was the firs thome I remember... had a lot of friends there, had my grandparents there (on my dad's side before they passed), but mostly I like I loved it there because in my mind it's kind of where life began. Berkeley, we were living on the Pacific School of Religion campus, up in the hills... anyone how knows the are, says what's not to love... we had the campus pretty much to ourselves. Manteca, probably would've been horrible but there was an awesome private school across the street that we went to and a pool in the back yard + my brother was will living at home! Then here... I think leaving here would be hard because in the last five years my family has gone through more joy and pain then ever... there have been a million things that have happened... going into any of that would take forever and probably bore everyone.

Swimming, a bunch of my friends swim and we take a trip to the lake every summer and in fact I leave thursday with them. So are you on a Water Polo or Swim team at school or anything?
I go to an incredibly small private school here... so there isn't a swim team of anything... but I wish! Thinking of doing swimming lessons in the fall with a bunch of friends though! Trip to the lake sounds like a lot of fun!!!

Sports? ha ha, what don't I do is a better question. If it's fast and dangerous usually I'm first to sign up. My favorite is Motocross and roller skating. If I'm not doing them everyday then something is wrong. lol
Somehow I saw you saying soemthing like that...

I also love roller-blading (can't spell, sorry)... used to roller-blade all the time until we moved here... we're very lacking in cement... so that hobby quickly died.

Do you have any pets? A myspace? Play any music? Oh what about favorites, like bands and colors?
Pets... I've got to dogs and two cats! I think the thread is called "Show us your pets" or something like that.. it's in general chat... there are pictures if you're interested.

Myspace... yes.... myspace.com/jmtcat

Don't play anything... but want to learn base, it would complete the family band... a full band seems to come together some how or another everytime my brother comes home. :)

I have to say that My favorite band is my brother's "Forest Fire"... but I wonder why...? But really I usually go for classic rock and alternative stuff.... lot of those unhead of bands (some of my favorites are on my myspace top friends).

Then... my favorite color is RAINBOW!!! :rainbow: :rainbow: :rainbow:

Same questions for you!:)

Yeah those years seem to get more common the older we get. Makes me look forward to growing up.
You ever need to talk about it I'm a good listener and my attention span is actually intact, surprisingly. Especially with all the head shots by inatimate objects.

A private school? Do you like it? I've always wondered what one would be like. Do you have to wear uniforms and such?
The trips are great. Someone always ends up pushing me off the dock though. Perhaps this will be the year for someone else...;)

:lol:I get pretty perdicatble usually. Don't worry, speeling iz me besst sugekt too.
Sad. No skating.

I shall look into that pet. I bet their cute.
I added you as a friend if that's okay. I'm always on myspace. It's kinda sad. That and I say lol... alot!

Base is great! Pretty easy to pick up and if you play guitar before base it's even easier. Do you want to play electric or stand-up?

Never heard of them but i shall check into it. Old school rock is nice and the undiscovered bands are always entertaining.

Favorite colors? I like yellow and white.

Jennifer5
08-08-2007, 02:42 AM
I actually really like private school. We did/well do, have uniform, but it's hardly uniform at all and we all break the rules. It's a Seventh-Day Adventist School... so you have to deal with the religious stuff... but I think that it's all worth it. Last year there were 19 kids grades 1-8 plus my sister and I who were freshmen. It seems really weird, but I really love it... we're like a family. We have fun, but we'll even fight... and we're always there for each other...

Base.... I think probably electric, but I don't really know... probably the only way it would actually end up happening is if someone gives me a base...:rolleyes:

Did you know that if you sock away some cash every year - say like 2000 bucks- and quit doing it when you are - oh say- 35 - you will have more than a million bucks in the back when you retire at 65? Think I'm kidding? Do the math. There's a little thing called compound interest.

Be smart. Get an IRA.

And when you start working for a company that has a 401k plan with matching funds, sign up and have some dough taken out of you paycheck. Pre-tax. Be smart.

You will be very glad you did.

When the rest of your age group in moaning about not having enough to live on when they are older, you will.

Please don't think you will do this kind of thing 'when' such and such happens, cause- believe me- that day will never arrive.

If you have even a small amount taken out of your paycheck you won't miss it, believe me.

See......this worries me.....you wrote 'should'...which means that while you like the idea.....you aren't sold on the payoff yet.

Imagine youself at 50 and having no savings. Nothing. Then imagine yourself at 20 saving little by little.

You have every moment to decide what kind of future you are going to have.

See......I'm pushy about this...but with good reason.

I know way too many people my age who have nothing. ;)

Put it off long enough and 'should' becomes 'could have'.

Only in the fact that for right now, YOU are the one who has to do it. Later, your job may offer the service of taking it directly out of your paycheck and depositing into your IRA. That is a good thing. I have money deducted from my paycheck that goes into an IRA, and some that goes into a savings account, and some that goes into a "Christmas Club" so that when the holidays roll around, I'm not charging all those presents. Those are some of the benefits of a credit union. My credit union also holds my car loan, so I have that payment deducted from my paycheck too, and since it comes out of every paycheck, the amount is relatively small.

Good for you. Steve is right- you may have to set aside funds yourself until you have a job that will do it for you. But that's good practice actually.

My parents- God Bless Them- taught me precious little about money- as I suspect most parents don't. That's why I'm so keen about young people getting a handle on things.

If happen to watch Suzy Orman- that's a great show to learn about money btw. She's an out lesbian- but I was watching her before she came out.

:confused::confused: I'm sorry im gonna have to do some reading...but I did understand that if I get someone else to automatically do it for me, Ill save without even considering it, right?

Ah....you sweetheart. I don't want to be right. I want ya to be middle-aged and not worry about how you are going to manage when you are in your 70's and can't work anymore.

Start small. And work your way up. That way, you'll be more likely to keep doing it.

Haha your starting to sound like a parent, aight dont worry I will save money.
Kinda nice huh?

Good for you. Steve is right- you may have to set aside funds yourself until you have a job that will do it for you. But that's good practice actually.

My parents- God Bless Them- taught me precious little about money- as I suspect most parents don't. That's why I'm so keen about young people getting a handle on things.

If happen to watch Suzy Orman- that's a great show to learn about money btw. She's an out lesbian- but I was watching her before she came out.

You guys are great... looking out for us young-ones...

(my grandma actually got my mom a bunch of Suzy Orman videos... I suppose we should watch those. )

Awwww, it sounds like yall miss him alot, well when someone dies, I try to remember the good times we had, you know? The times we laughed, the times we were together, and all of a sudden I find myself smiling again :D

Yeah... and he was the best... he was a big kid at heart, I don't think that there's any one person in the world that knew him, that wasn't sad to see him grow. My friends from this school have known me for the last five years... and it was the first time they saw me cry. :'(

All memories of Ray are good.... we celebrate his life by enjoying life... but it doesn't mean that it stops hurting.

Payday is always the best!!!! My sister and I get paid a little to take care of the neighbors little dogs while there at work... but it's really more of a favor/easy cash... not a real job.

Painting... ceilings and walls all had to be done in almost every room on the bottom floor of the house + two big walls on the second floor, because we needed it done before the mantle was put in + trim on the new door doing down the stairs (that actually still needs to be done) + my sister and I's new bedroom (literally new, those called didn't used to be there...)

But all that I can think of that's left is the trim on the door doing to the bottom floor/ almost apartment and fixing what we messed up in our new room and finishing the ceiling in there.

It's about this solider framing around the cowboy vs Indian periods. You know, great conquest of the west and such. And out in the great mid west he gaurds this lone fort waiting his company to show up and he meets this tribe of indians. It's all about their interactions and how he learns to grow and except them. My better judgement says no, but it might be important she sounded upset.

I decided that they cannot move back...I have another plan. I am gonna move in with them and let them support, feed, and cloth me. (not really)

Well Jennifer, I am gonna do some research. Maybe write some more poetry. I hope this helped boost your goal.

It certainly did!!! Join us again tomorrow night... we should both be on!

I've got to get a shower and go to sleep... I have to get up in the morning... no idea how early, no one told me... but still, if it's before noon, it's never pretty

Good night, sleep tight! :smurf:

Can we get an idea of what happened last night?

Ryanne Monday

Can we get an idea of what happened last night?

Well I had been on the phone with her, for the sake of clarification she can be known as Curl:lol:, for about twenty minutes durring my late night computer conversations. We had been going over her birthday bash, wasting words on the passing days and I could tell something was bugging her. After deciding it was about time for bed I asked her point blank, no more beating around the bush. She asked me to come meet her at a specific meeting place near her house, said she wanted to talk about it in person and it was important.
That was about the time that I asked you guys for advice.
I pushed for more details and she just said it was about me comming out to her and moving and such.
My heart now speeding in the school zone took off with my brain and I decided to meet up with her down the road. I hung up, gave a goodbye message and set out my window.
My room sits over the garage and the driveway is on a horrible slant. It's maybe a seven-nine foot drop if you time it at the right angle, which don't worry I've practiced since helping around the house. Getting down was no problem and it wasn't a few minutes later that I met up with her by the side of her house.
At first we really didn't talk about anything other then making jokes about the whole situation. I guess the risk of everything just had us hyped up. But soon after we finally got down to the point, it was maybe around two about now but I didn't have a watch.
She really just kind of broke down, saying about how much she was gonna miss me and didn't want to do it in the middle of her party. Going on about how different it was going to be, and such. I tried my best to comfort her but it took a while before she calmed down.
I was a nervous wreak as she started pulling out of the tears. I don't usually go about braking the rules and the strain was eating at me. I told her I really needed to get back and she understood.
We embraced in a long hug and I told her I'd see her after work. She told me she loved me.
Now coming from a girlfriend this means really nothing, but I just couldn't help thinking that maybe it meant something more this time. But I doubt it. I jus tdon't want to go over thinking it, she had said it all the time to me over the years, why should last night be any different? Ugh!
Well I watched her sneak back in through the front door and headed home, coming in through the garage with the hide key by the door. I even took off my jeans in the garage to my cleverness so that if mom did find me in the kitchen (that's where our garage enters into) I could feign for a glass of water, looking like I was in pajama's.
i thought it was smart.
Anyway, that's really the nutshell of it. Some other stuff was said but it was just family issues. I jus tdon't want to overthink the situation.
At least I know she's okay with me being gay.

That help?

Ryanne,
It sounds like you have a great friend. My best friend moved to Washington over ten years ago. I just wanted you to know that though the distance is great...we have remained best friends. It is so much easier to stay in touch now...with the Internet...free nights and weekends on cell phones...and unlimited long distance from most land lines now. Vicki, my best friend and I met when I was 12 and she was 10. So we have been best friends for 41 years now. Let your friend know how much she means to you and promise each other you will stay in touch. You will be glad you did. I am excited because my best friend will be in town at the end of this month for two weeks...her daughter is getting married. It seems that no matter how much time passes between us we are connected and will be connected for eternity.

I've done a fair amount of that myself. You know how the saying goes, right?

Q: How do you get to Carnegie Hall?
A: Practice- practice- practice.

You're talking to a bass-baritone..

Played tuba in high school. Lugged a sousaphone around in band at football games. Glad I gave that up.

Learned to play most of the instruments in college to get my Music Ed. Degree. French horn is pretty tricky.

Didn't practice, huh? Mr. Genius....:rolleyes::love:

Day was good. I work 6 days a week, so this was my day off. Went to a museum with Mr. Husband (after his church service) to have lunch and take in some arhhht. Then came home and wrote some ill conceived posts. Made dinner. Watched a fun movie- Legends- with early Tom Cruise and Tim Curry.

er okay. I'm currently doing WW3 on this spider I found on my ceiling. Just wait until this creepy crawler gets a load of my ghost buster skills on the lacrosse stick. He's going down!

I hear you're writing a book Daniel. Is it difficult? Jen says it's about sining.

Jen,

Guitar is fun but difficult and singing and playing at the same time requires some serious mutil-tasking abilities. When you do learn Jen can get that bass together I'll hit on drums and we can be a band.

Sound solid?

Okay kids, a little confession. Not sure how good it is for the soul though.
I sang in choir until my senior year in high school. I finally quit my senior year...not because I did not love to sing...it was because I was a very very late bloomer....at the beginning of my senior year...I was still singing first soparano...a little too embarassing for me. It was not until the end of my senior year that my voice finally changed. Since then I have sang tenor. I joined church choir later and sang for many years, but since I do not go to church anymore that has ceased also. Anyway, that is my confession so do not laugh to hard.

Bill

PS. You kids cannot seem to sit still.

Man if you could still hit the soparano we could cover Blondie songs with you as our singer!
Interesting how this entire thread somehow traveld to singing when it is indeed titled "singing in the rain..."

Ah don't feel bad...my hair started turning white at the age of 14...I had a solid white stripe down the back of my head. Of course, I got the nickname Skunk which was not very flattering. By 30 it was completely white. My poor kids, 29, 27, and 21 all have a few white hairs here and there...I imagine by the time they are 50 they will be white-heads also...and not the kind you pick.

You know, it's a gay 101 rule. You have to sing in a choir. And you get extra points for being a tenor.

Please don't let me you're a baritone.......

Now to change the topic...

Ugh, I just got news that my dad has been trying to contact the school, because he's convinced that we don't go there anymore.

I...... don't even know what to say about it.

I have to get up in the morning and go work at the school, setting up the new school before school starts on Aug. 25th.... so there is a lot to get done.

Sounds like your dad really wants to step in your life. What's his deal anyway? If he's so wanting to mess with it why not just support you in it?
I don't understand adults sometimes, teenagers are always pretty basic and to the point. It's easy to figure what's eating us.

It just seems like every time your father comes into play it's to throw your life off in some manner. Why doesn't he just go with the flow and help you with your life instead of throwing you the curve ball?

Because he has a drug problem and is mentally unstable. Because there is only one person in the world that matters and that's him. Because his fiancé is probably wondering why she never see's us and is telling him he has to do these things. Because he lives a life of lies and is unaware of how to escape.

Because he's incapable. That's rough.
