View Full Version : Late Night with the Youth of Today

Here you go kiddos, and anyone else who feels the need to yak it up all hours of the night.
We've had some discussion about the use of our forums for "chat" and while we aren't happy about threads being hi-jacked and the conversational quality of some recent posts, well, here's where you can just talk.
There is the possibility of adding a chat room feature to the forums at some point in the future.
Talk here. No more hi-jacking other threads for that purpose.

Thanks Steve! (and all others who helped make this happen)
But really, all I'm thinking right now, is that I feel horrible for even thinking of this. I come here because I love all that this site is all about.
I'm really sorry about hi-jacking that other thread, it wasn't ever supposed to go as far as it did, but it became really easy to get caught up in it. Other hi-jackings, have either been accidental, or just my stupid suggestion. (So yes, I'm taking all the blame)
Thank you for this thread, but personally I don't think I can use it the way it was intended.... I think we can use as more of a day to day 'chat room' type thing, but still keep it all up to soulforce standards (i.e. try to avoid really short one sentence responses).... now that we've been given permission to use the thread just as a chat room kind of thing, none of you have to agree with me on this.... just how I feel.

Jennifer,
First and foremost, do not feel bad. It was recognized that there was a need that needed to be fullfilled for some general chat. And this is perfect for you to do it. You young people have a tremendous amout of energy and a perspective that is just as important as the rest of us. Soulforce talks about some very serious issues but at the same time it is a safe place for us to have some fun and fellowship with one another. While hijacking was probably not the best of ideas (I was guilty of helping you on an occasion or two), the result was a place for you to chat your heart away if you feel the need.

I totally agree with Bill on this !! Every real community evolves to meet the needs of its members. No one should feel bad about getting their needs met especially when there is no real conflict between those needs and the needs of others. We love you big time Jenn! and as you know, the young folks aren't the only ones who like to play around here!

A garbage bag might be the best thing if it's real bad. I've done that a few times... although once I pick up my clothes, that pretty much finishes the job.

Man, that makes me really sad though, because the kid I knew last year loved school! (or was at least able to enjoy it)... I'm sure once you get into the year it'll be better though, less stress and more of the everyday school type thing.
Really, 12$ after tax... that's good, but don't you think you can do better then that??? Maybe it's really different around there, or maybe it's like that here too and I just don't realize it.... but it seems like 10 dollars an hour should be the least anyone should ever make. But I guess you also like where you work, so that must help a lot!

Yeah, I dream... but different things... people always try and ask "what do you dream about?" or "what was your last dream?" or something like that, but I refuse to answer them and just tell them I don't know... Jorge...write down those dreams! They might come in real handy one day when you become a famous writer. I Know..I know...I am not one of you young ones but I keep strange hours due to my brother's health. I really have wierd dreams also...I always have. It is because I have such a wild imagination. I think that is why I get a long with my grandkids so well...me play in an imaginary world all the time.

Makes me never want to leave home.... but on the other hand I absolutely love to travel. Why must it be like this, I don't like that I miss them and worry about them so much whenever I leave, my boy gets so upset and leaves home everytime I leave. Last time he vanished for the first 7 or 8 days. :(
But at the same time, I'm so excited!!!! Staying in a hotel near the airport tonight (don't know if I'll have wireless, but there is a pool, so oh well). Then, 8am flight in the morning. fantastic!
school then work, what could be better?
i had one guest try to return a non-returnable item, and it says right on the receipt "same item only if open," but he tried to return it. the guy working behind the counter says, "i'm sorry but i can't return this," and the guest started cussing him out. when the guest asked for the manager my guy behind the counter called me over, and i tried to explain to the quest about how he couldn't return his computer game because it was open and he started to cuss me out, and i asked him to leave. he told me he wasn't going to leave until he talked to the real manager, (he didn't like the fact that I look so young) and I told him, "I am the manager, and if you cannot find the exit I would happy to show it to you." And I walked him to the door, and told him to have a nice day. He then started cussing even more and throwing a huge fit and I called the police on him and had them talk to him. pretty much an amazing experience, to know i have the power to kick someone out of my store, that's pretty cool.

school+work, it really is a great mix if you're not to tired... but if you're tired it completely sucks!
That is cool! I mean, I suppose that it's a weird thing to find interesting... but being able to throw someone out of a store is neat. I've only gotten to really see and be part of throwing someone out of the house, I mean it's the same thing, but on a smaller scale.:)

I don't know what they do in Germany but one of the strategies that they use here is to train boys to sing using their head voices (falsetto) until the change is more or less complete (at 14-15) then transitioning down to the lower register. I know that my voice changed more or less overnight (over the summer) I was an alto in the seventh grade Spring concert and a Bass in the 8th grade Fall concert.

No, not school yet. I'll start school Monday and schoolwork some time in the middle of the week or next week.
Been working since we got home because nothing had gotten finished while we were gone. Now the top floor is complete with almost everything put away (although when we do start school we'll probably realize we're missing a lot of stuff) and the capet and painting and all is finished on the top floor. The bottom floor is complete once we finished painting the two bedrooms and then we'll just need to find renters. In the morning the guy is coming to sand down and finish the hardwood floors. The house has been completely remodeled in about an month and a half.
I can understand on some level that Austin does this grown-up thing, he is 18 and in college. But Jorge, you're 16, you'll regret it someday if you try to grow up to fast. Because once you officially cross that line, it won't ever be the same, there's no going back... they'll exspect you to stay grown-up:eek:

 uhh, yeah sure... I don't know, I think almost everyone who goes to our school loves it, but then again, people just don't stay more then a year, if they truly don't want to be there.
The only thing I kinda regret agreeing to the SDA curriculum... I thought they just meant bible but noooooooo.... so next year we'll have to deal with that, but it's not so horrible. I've dealt with it all before, after all I am in an SDA school, I just should've gone with the online programs non-denominational option.

I read zealously. Most of my selections are political, philosophical, or religious, but I stay true to the classics. I also am trying to be involved at the community college I go to by running for student body president. I do not have a job as of right now, but need one asap. I like to exercise, so I run and hike. I meditate, draw, write, and, of course, hang out with my friends.

Yes, very good friends. I don't know where I would be without them. Many of them moved away after graduation, so I am a lathargic mess, sluggish and with no motivation. :'(

Man... I hate when people move away. For the longest time, I didn't have a clue, because my family was always the one doing the leaving. But then last year, all the people I had known since we moved here, left. It felt so weird.

I have. The places I checked back with say one of the following:
1. They cant work with my schedule.
2. They arent hiring.
3. I'm not old enough due to liability.
4. I dont have the requirements.
It is a small town, too. So it is really hard. There are already three months worth of applications on top of mine, so I have a wait.

I was hoping for a job on campus, since I'm a full time student. But, alas, the community college I go to is not motivated to even create jobs for students like me, who have 16 units in progress, as well as student government.

But my ideal will be either to work at a nice restaurant as a waitress, or the market, or hollywood video. Waitress only makes the top of the list because you can make more money that way.

It was alright. There just isn't the best mood around the house, after a big issues that my mom had at work yesterday. She decided she'll go back to work Monday, but will be looking for a new job. It's just a hard topic, because she's a Nanny and I can't see her leaving the kids, but on the other hand... she can't stay there and be treated like that. I don't know who will end up being hurt more, her or the kids....

Ooh good question! How did you find SF?
To respond...
A couple years ago, our church was having someone coming to talk at our church, like any other church event, I had no interest. But my uncle insisted that I go and said I'd really like it.
My parents were talking about divorce, my uncle was pretty much the only person whose opinion I cared about at the time, so I went. Talked to a bunch of people, having no idea who they were. Then day went on and this guy started talking... and I didn't think anything of it. But everything that was said keep coming back to me....
The speaker was Mel White. By the time he was done speaking, I finally had a little bit of an idea of who he was. I was on the site all the time reading things and ended up doing to a couple SF events. There you have it. I love it here!
Hobbies.... swimming, school, being here.

I found Soulforce after researching Focus on the Family. I looked to see what the organization stood for, and then on Wikipedia I saw that a group called Soulforce was against their agenda. So I looked, and instantly became a member!

Neat! It's always hard because I think that FOF is a good place, they just have certain issues with specific topics.

I'm not a Christian, so that could make me more bewildered by FOF.

I'm not either.
I think FOF is supposed to be good about trying to help people to really be more family oriented.... just a lot of good parenting tips. I just figure, if it helps, then it's better then nothing.

I do agree with that, so I do see some good.

Yeah, personally... I'd rather see strict, really religious parents, then see ones who don't even bother to participate or set any limits. Just because of the long term affect of things.

Nothing really. I posted an election thing for my school on Myspace, but other than that, I'm a blob of inactivity.

Oh, yes!!! I'm going to Germany this winter, and hopefully again in the Spring, and visit the Netherlands as well.

Lucky!!!!
I love to travel, want to see the world! But haven't gotten very far. The furthest I've been is NY... or in the other direction, HI. But the only times I've gotten to leave the country, aren't even worth mentioning.
You must be really excited right?

Yes! My friend lives there, so I have a place to stay and eat, and round-trip tickets are cheap.

FOF is ridiculous, they go crazy on Harry Potter and they are just one huge messed up corporation, no offense; I found this site while searching the Gordon College website, and after my sister told me some bus full of sinners were coming to visit her college (the tone she used was incredibly vitriolic, and I got really mad at here) She does not know I'm gay and I want to be able to go to college, so I made no comment. Of course I pretended to side with her, then when no one was looking and found this website, and I seriously am glad I did, because I fully support the causes that the Soulforce was created for!

Yeah, they are rather radical to the point of near irrationality.
I support the causes of this organization as well. It is a great place to honestly see a diverse community be open.
So, how are you this fine evening?
