Howdy! My name is Jerid, and I've been fortunate enough to be a part of several past Soulforce events. I'm 23, living in Lynchburg VA (Mel and Gary are my neighbors!), and I'm a practicing Buddhist. I love the outdoors, reading and studying, and art in almost all it's forms.
Currently I am trying to find a Sangha in Lynchburg in which to be a part of, but I would like to also to be a part of Soulforce on a local level. We're all equal, wonderful creatures, and we all have a lot we can do for humanity.
Welcome to soulforce.
You'll find a few Buddhist types, if not outright Buddhists around here. We're a diverse crowd. Glad to have you here and I look forward to getting to know you.

Lynchburg isn't exactly the most tolerant of cities to live in, granted, but it is not without its beauty and truly wonderful people... you sometimes just have to look a little harder to see it.
I feel like I can speak from a very interesting personal perspective about this city, as it's been my home for over twenty years. My family personally knew the late Reverend Falwell, and I had the pleasure of speaking with him several times. While I believe that he did good things for our community, and for Christians in general, I believe also that the means to his methods weren't exactly following Christ's word. Hate is hate is hate, which does not belong in any religion. I'm a peaceful person, and I believe that change and progress can be achieved through peaceful resistance, love, tolerance, and compassion.
That's just my belief, anyways. But don't let one man (or Reverend!) influence your opinion about the 'Burg.

Welcome Jerid! You sound like an incredible guy and I think you described what Falwell did really well.
Mel and Gary are great guys, if it weren't for both of them I wouldn't of ever gotten involved in Soulforce.
I hope you stick around, glad to have you here!

Hey Jerrid,
Just sayin' hi. Here in Central Arkansas there many professors of religion who are practicing Buddhists. Who'd a thunk that, huh? I lived in Boulder for 3 years a there's a huge Buddhist following there. My former boss was one. Peace.
Nice to meet you.

I see you're online Littlebuddhaboy.
How'd I miss you when you were first here? Welcome- again.
This Buddhaman lives in NYC- and I've been doing sitting practice for a long while, and have a keen interest in Buddhism, though I grew up Pentacostal.
You're not alone in that: Anthony- also on this forum- has an affinity to the big B.
Hope to see you around here more: would love to hear more about you and your story. Did you find a Sangha in your town?
Peace.
