Has this section always been called "General Discussions" or did it used to be "General Chat"?
I'm confused because I kept calling it general chat, but then I look at it and realize that's not what it's called... I think I may be going crazy?!?!

Yes.
;)
:D
That is, it used to be called "general chat." I did a double-take recently, hmmm, perhaps about a week ago, maybe less - and noticed the word "chat" had become "discussion." A way of putting a more elevated spin on the banter that occurs here - we shall dignify ourselves by calling this "discussion" henceforth.

:shifty: Good, it's not just me... it really was changed. I just thought I'd ask, I noticed a couple days ago and was so confused... But at least I'm not alone.
But let's be serious, it really is more chat then it is discussion... :p

I noticed that it had changed on the same day that Steve created the thread for late night with the young ones.

Hmmmm.... I thought I had something to say... But I guess I don't. Can we have an area for the folks that just need to stand around looking silly sometimes.
Oh yeah... Why is my keyboard not typing all the letters here in the forums now? I am running Vista, and my Yahoo mail was doing that for awhile, but it stopped. Now here! Ugh!!
If itlooks like I've forgotten how to spell, don't blame me, blae my keyboad.

I can see this website leading to some powerful discussions on the value, attitude, and influence of youth. Don't underestimate us, we are the ones who invoke real change.

Correction, Brent. "Meddling." The word is "meddling," as in "We would've gotten away with it too, if it wasn't for those meddling kids!"

Thank you Zerbie, I knew it wasn't right, but couldn't think of the right words ... and Austin, I hope you don't think my remark was directed at "you" kids ... it was a Scooby Doo reference, following Steve's ... we're old, and sometimes we have flashbacks to our childhood.

Not at all! I understood the reference... I was just remarking on how the youth, invoked enough change that we brought a new name to an old established category. It's really a big metaphor to life. The youth do something and unknowingly change the bigger picture. That's what happens when we youth are disruptive to a society, it brings the leaders together, they discuss, and either clamp down or allow a specific outlet to siphon away our youthful tendencies. I love it really.

Such a good insight, Austin, and so well stated. All segments of society are of great value. The older members bring stability and efficency; the younger members bring change and growth.
I am always encouraging my students to question and to challenge. Sometimes I pay for that too when my students insit on challenging me. It's good though, and I think everyone needs to be challenged. No improvments come to a society when everyone thinks alike and follows the same path. It's the rebels who cause the change; the people on the fringes that cause things to advance.
One of my 7th graders said something to me a few years ago that I have taken as a compliment. I said that people often regard me as rather weird. She said, "You are weird, but in a good way."
"Cool", I thought.
So all you youngsters, go ahead and disrupt. I, for one love having you here. You are breath of fresh air.
Tu (weird) Amigo, Pablo

please. the forums are not even 2 years old yet, and not too long after the forums opened, there was the redesign that gave us all these categories!
Old and Established! HA!

I think syphoning away your youthful tendencies - actually, giving you a place to expend your youthful energy and desire to chat with each other - is great. HOWEVER, I for one still want to read your insights and wisdom on a regular basis.
And it's not just you, Austin, but our Jennifers and multi-monikered Elcharroms, and ..... It is a metaphor to life. Unfortunately, youth are expected to be seen and not really heard - unless of course they just regurgitate stuff to make us old folks look smart and wise. But that is self-defeating for us old fogies - it denies us the ability to learn from others who have a different, fresher, and many times less corrupt, set of eyes.
I pray the chat thread is well-received as a place you can have fun. If you feel like you are being corralled, avoid it like the plague. We need you to fly free and give us flights of fancy ourselves.

Spoken like a true fogey, eh. To someone who is eighteen or even younger, two years is a hell of a long time. To me, and even more so for u-dog and Steve, it something that can be missed in a blink.

Yeah, I remember that happening... I thought it would cause the forums to become to big and lose what we had here that was so great. But it was a wonderful surprise to see that it wasn't an issue at all, our forums have grown, but they haven't lost anything.

You've got it! We'll still share and when the 'chat' thread picks up more again, I think you'll find that we really do say something, it's not just one-sentence-nothings.

You better watch yourself there Andy, after all, if I recall, you're a lot older then our dear Steve, so watch your words.
