We are now at 32 consecutive days, here in Phoenix, of temperatures above 110F degrees.
This is record-breaking weather, even for Phoenix. Of course, it cools off to about 90F degrees between about midnight and 4am. I haven't spent leisure time outside since. . . oh, I don't remember! You don't dare open a window - 'cuz that's like turning on the oven and just opening it into the room.
I am now perfectly accustomed to rubbing ice cubes all over my body before going to bed at night. They melt really fast. :o

I heard on the radio a few days ago that the temperature in Phoenix set an all time record, although I don't remember exactly what it was. It musta been well over 115........
At times like this, they say that it is hot enough to fry an egg on the sidewalk. I wonder, do you think it's hot enough to fry a dentist on the sidewalk?
Zerbie, we're all pulling for you. I hope that I can speak for the rest of us, when I say that we wish you a sizzling love life, and a pleasantly cool everything else.
Peace and Love, Bruce Chris

Oh really? I missed that. It's gone up to 118 a few times this summer, but if it was the a few days ago I missed it. Mostly I hide inside, and when I can't, I wear the Solar Panel Hat (so named by Elcharrom.) But these temperatures explain why I feel like I'm ill after I've walked the half mile from the parking lot to the building. And feel like I'll die if I don't sit in a giant barrel of ice. I guess this means I need to order a barrel and a freezer.

Oh no question about the egg. I keep forgetting to stock tea bags in the car for when a bottle of water gets left in there. I'm quite used to drinking HOT water, because it gets hot as I carry the bottle around with me all day. Though by 5pm when it's 112 degrees, you're outside in the full sun and walking around, it really sucks to hold the water bottle up to your lips and drink HOT water.
As for the dentist, hmmm well I object to the D word on general principles, but in this case, mentioning it for the sake of revenge fantasy is fair and square. :D

Zerb,
Here in Texas where we have 3 weeks of winter (and by winter I mean, below 60) I can sympathize with ya. We have godawful humid hot weather from April to November and sometimes December. By January we have about 3 weeks of winter and then it starts to warm up. I know AZ is dry hot, and that is just smothering. I remember waking up one day in Flagstaff in July and it was a cool 64, warmed up to about 85 and I made my way down to Phoenix, got out of the car to fill up with gas, and literally the air was so hot and dry, I lost my breath. It had gone from 85 to 101 in a matter of hours. I was amazed. I was headed to Yuma where it is hell all the time. My sister lived there for 4 years, and said it was horrible.
Sorry sweetie. Don't ya'll have air conditioners?

 Yeah, of course we have air conditioners or we'd be dead! The AC has been on CONSTANTLY since May to keep it 80 indoors. The irony is I can't stand air conditioning. It hurts my nose really badly.
I miss Houston! A lot of people think I'm weird because that's my ideal climate (if you subtract the pollution.) The dry just kills me. Like you say, smothering. And without clouds, the sun is too direct and it just penetrates and burns burns burns. And there's dust everywhere. . . .

Maybe you should try Erie, PA, fondly known as "Dreary Erie, the Mistake on the Lake" ... in Erie, they have two seasons, Winter and August.

Rats! It was predicted to be 107, but it was 109.
Yeah, here we have two seasons also: oven, and 3 freezing cold days in January.

In Minnesota (where the mosquito is the state bird) we used to say there were two seasons. Winter and Road construction.
