So I picked up the book Hero by Perry Moore (fun read, btw!) that was mentioned in a thread elsewhere in this forum, and I really liked it. So I was wondering... does anyone else have any recommendations for a good read that has a positive outlook on non-straight sexual orientations?

I'm sure they're out there, but other than some random erotica collections (and an absolutely adorable romance novel that delights in its own cheesiness by the title of [i]The Price of Temptation[/i), I haven't seen very many.

I tend to Geek out on queer history, so I enjoyed "Making Gay History" because it's chock full of first person accounts. Particularly interesting were the interviews about some of the conflicts within the earlier homophile organizations.

I haven't read the full thing yet, but I think I'm going to pick up "Lockpick Pornography" by Joey Comeau. (http://www.lockpickbook.net/) I read the first seven chapters online, and...it's definitely worth reading more. It's weird, and intellectual, but also kinda dirty. A friend described it as "watching british people have sex". :)

Ooo! Sounds like it's right up my weird, twisted alley. *laugh* And the other one you mentioned sounds good too. Thanks!

I figured it was worth mentioning that it's...y'know...not for young audiences etc. But yeah, it's pretty awesome. The first part that's available online details the firstperson pov account of one gay guy struggling with the definition of gender (if gender is just a construct, why aren't I attracted to women?), and an anger for straights, and how he and his friends dress up as gay cartoon characters (Bert and Ernie and Wonder Woman etc) and write a gay children's book to sneak into classrooms.

MJ,
If you are looking for lesbian fiction, check out Bold Strokes Books, or Bella Books online. They have everything!!!!!!!!!!!! I order from them and Amazon frequently. If not, I don't know where else to tell you to look, except in gay friendly bookstores who stock gay/lesbian type books and novels. Hope it helps.

Ah, thanks! And I'm not looking specifically for lesbian fiction... just any non-straight. I'm actually very much a fan of reading about/watching boys together as much as anything. Just to clarify. But thank you for the resources! I'll go check them out. :)
