Not to be negative, but my wife and I went for the first time to the Renaissance Festival in Plantersville, TX last year, and I just wasn't that impressed. It was not very authentic, but then again, how authentic can it be 600 years after the real thing?
Maybe it is better than here in TX and I would like to know what the others are like....:D

I love the music, the jousting, the plays and the beer. My wife and daughter wear period clothing and I have a period shirt. It is not for everyone which is why we go by ourselves!

So does your wife do the corset thing? I guess you are right. I am a huge history fan. I love historical places, am fascinated with history in general, and was mortified when our history book at school reduced the Renaissance and Reformation into 2 paragraphs with barely a mention of Shakespeare and Luther. We were supposed to be teaching European history and geography and I was appalled that so little attention was given to the two major driving forces behind European culture. So I took twice as long to teach European history because I went as far back as Greek and Roman history and came down through the Crusades, King John I, King Henry VIII, Queen Elizabeth I, the Age of Exploration, then The Renaissance and Reformation. I guess that is why I was disappointed in the Renaissance festival. I guess I expected more. It seemed like a very cheap imitation. I hope they do it up right where you go. I would love to see something more realistic.:)

I went to the renfest in plantersville once with by buds in college. We all went in costume. John made fun of Chris. Chris had this staff with runes carved in it. John says "what's that carved on your staff?"
Chris says, "runes."
John says "Oh, like when you dop something and it breaks you rune it."

No Corset and my daughter is not allowed to show her boobs, we are conservative renaissance people. ;)
They shop, I listen to music, drink beer, smoke a pipe and watch plays, sword fighting etc...
We walk around together and take it all in.
