Says that a national poll by the Princeton Review shows that Macalester College, in the Twin Cities area, has been found to be the most GLBT friendly place of higher education in the country.

Macalester College has also been rated as the most livable college campus.

Fresh Fruit Radio, on KFAI ("Fresh Air Radio", 90.3 FM) is on from 7:30 to 8:30 PM every Thursday, and is the nation's longest running Queer radio program.

So, all of you high school or freshly post-high school subscribers, check it out.

Do you know what they based the decision on?

Partner benefits for faculty? Non-discrimination policy?
Polls of student attitudes towards LGBT persons?
Did they even mention what factors they measured?

No, I don't know what criteria the publication used, or how carefully or extensive their study was. Leigh Combs, the program host did an on-the-air interview with the Dean of students, Jim Hoppe, and there was extensive discussion about outreach, and GLBT friendly student groups that were encouraged on campus.

what day was that BC? one of my boys had MacAllister on his short list. We went up and toured it. I remembered being impressed that they had some kind of special housing arrangment for GLBT kids ... especially Trans kids who felt they needed another level of privacy to feel safe and comfortable. That was a couple of years ago now so I forget the details.

When I heard the program last night, it seemed to me to be mostly a feel good piece, put in mostly for local listeners. If you want more specific information, I am afraid that you will have to go directly to Macalester College, and the Princeton review.

I can tell you (and have done so repeatedly) that the Twin Cities area is very gay friendly, and that there are LOTS of groups and organizations, public and private, that serve the Queer community.

It is interesting how Minneapolis/St. Paul and Minnesota in general are often on the top in many lists and surveys. I have only been their once and found it to be a beautiful city. It has the repuatation of being forward-thinking, with a well educated populace, good health care etc. (New England is generally grouped with Minnesota in these areas.) Now if we can get the nation to follow Minnesota's lead.

You Minnesotans do have to work on a few items:
Get some MOUNTAINS.
Improve the weather.
And the place is just swarming with Lutherans. swat, swat
