A worthy holiday, indeed.
One of the perks of my current youth work job (it ain't the pay, so it's gotta be something!) is that we often do themed events ... in 2004, we did a whole year long pirate theme ... all our conferences, sports tourneys, etc., had pirate overtones ... kids and advisors took on "pirate names" for the year ... a crew of pirates would often show up at a local youth group meeting, "board" the room and take over, swearing on the attendees to our "crew." It was an energy-builder for a membership recruitment incentive, etc ... it was a total BLAST! We have a bunch of adult leaders who are complete hams (not that I am one) and who really played it up big time.
At one event, we brought a crew member up on charges and made him walk the plank (aka the diving board in our conference center's swimming pool) ... we had three pages of trumped up charges against him, many of which were not suitable for youth group use, like (crass humor warning, look away if you don't like crass humor):
"Dancing around the mast in that way."
"Taking the term poop deck entirely too literally."
... and my personal favorite (VERY crass, but had me in tears when we first came up with it): "Shouting 'Thar she blows!' when she doesn't."
My character for the year was "Deadeye Danny Caine" the blind gunnery master (he shoots by sense of smell) ... shtick of course included the blindfold and flintlocks, storming the room and holding the wall at gunpoint instead of the crowd, etc ... too much fun.

I always had the thought that being captured by pirates would be a bad thing, but methinks now ... maybe it might be rather nice. :)

If this was a dream there'd be rum; so says Captain Jack Sparrow. What think ye, matey? Where be the rum?

Yes, reminds me of my cabin boy (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cabin_boy) days (http://www.soulforce.org/forums/showthread.php?t=280&highlight=reincarnation) - until they stopped allowing women on board..

You make it sound like I have no control and simply go crazy over any pirate that comes along. I am a model of self-restraint.
I do NOT go crazy over pirates!
... sweet... handsome...adorable... pirates ... named Brent.
I don't, (sniff, sniff) I don't.
But don't you all think the earring is a good look for Brent. Maybe a bit much for non-pirate use, but it looks good on him, no?

My habitually self-deprecating personality cannot allow this observation to go unspoken ... how tough is it to look hot with half your face covered?

Yes, that earring is good. I'm not saying that any pirate picture will drive you crazy... just the one of Brent and Johnny Depp.

Brent, Thisk of how much time you can save in the mornings. No more hours of grooming, makeup, shaving, making sure every hair is in place. A mask is all it takes.

For some of us pretty tough.
People usually suggest I put on a paper bag rather than a mask. :(

And Dave, I'll get that 50 bucks to you right away.
