Nein! Ich kann nicht Deutch. das ist alle. Das ist schade aber...richtig? Anyway, Glad you're here Bennet. Care to tell us a little more about yourself? What is your connection to the GLBTQ community? This is a pretty friendly bunch ... unless you are mean to gay people ... then its "hell hath no fury" time. :)

After reading the other posts, I think it is necessary to give a little more information about me. I am a young gay man who lives in Morongo Valley, near Palm Springs. I have been open about my sexuality for two years now, and have found much difficulty living in the area I live in being openly gay. This proved true with my parents, both Mormon (I lean towards Buddhism) and conservative. We had much trouble communicating with each other, but I was lucky, and we get along perfectly now. So, if there is anything else you wish to know, just ask!

Thank you, U-Dog. I hope that my introduction will suffice, but if there is anything else you'd like to know, let me know. I wouldnt say I'm mean to gay people, though I do find conflict with the gay community in Palm Springs as far as ideology. But, as long as people are nice to me, or even if they arent, I'll be cordial and considerate.

I followed your myspace link and now feel that I have a sufficient amount of informatation on the phenomenon known as "Bennett" -- for the time being at least. As more information becomes available I will integrate it into what I know ;) Anyway... welcome. I personally have never met any gay people from Palm Springs ... what are the ideological characteristcs with which you take issue?

I think two words can describe the disagreement:

White Party.

I feel that the gay community in Palm Springs, though it can be commended for its support groups and openess, it also suffers a lack of decency, especially during the White Party. There is also no compromise; if you don't agree with the gay community, you are against them, and therefore a bigot. I do not agree with such polar mindsets. So, that is what I have issue with.

Wilkommen.

Whenever I hear a sentence that begins with "mein name ist," I think of my first date with my husband, which was in Austria and we went to see Spiderman, and young Spidey protests, 'Mein Name ist die mennschliche Spinne!! Mein Name ist die menschliche Spinne!!!" It was a really obnoxious nasal voice, too.

And ugh - I can't stand huge rifts in the gay community. Why does that have to happen!? :(

When you have such a diverse group, such as the gay community, it is hard for everyone to agree with everyone else.

Sure. But that's no reason to go about digging humongous chasms between one sub-group and another.

Who said I was digging chasms? Can you further explain?

two words ... White Party.

Oh, yeah, that's White Party territory ... that's pretty infamous. I can see where that might be a sticking point!

Welcome, Bennett! Where whatever color you like here, and enjoy the conversations.

Hi, Bennett!

As much as I love any opportunity to practice my long-neglected German, I'm confused about what your German background is and why you employ it here.

So, I'll ask a rather obvious question: are you German? or maybe just studying and wanting to use some (which, by the way, I soooo did back in "the day")?

It hardly matters...I'm just curious.

Welcome to the forum!

David

I think, by using phrases in a language that isnt English, it adds for a more interesting post. In this case, German, which I am learning at the moment. I also like using French and Italian phrases here and there, which is pretty common for English speakers to do ;)

If you want, I'll keep it puritanically English.

Nein, Ich bin Hollander.

...oder sind Sie wirklich Amerikaner mit holländischen Verwandten?

Regardless, welcome, and thanks for the clarification.

Glad to have you here. I know your area of Morongo Valley well. It is a favorite hiking/mountain biking area of mine. I used to go from LA to Joshua Tree NM quite often. I love the desert (except in mid summer).

I also have some problems with the segment of the gay community that is so often portrayed in the media. I think the "parties" group is a prime example. I believe that all people gay or straight need to live lives of decency, responsibility and service to others. So often I think the impression of gay people is that we are all the irresponsibile "partyers" who have no morals whatsoever. I must admit that I am pretty "straight-laced" myself and tend to be on the conservative side of the spectrum on such issues.

Anyhow, welcome and please tell us more. Just don't start in German or anything PLEASE. Spanish would be OK, however. :D

Welcome Bennett

Glad you found your way here! Hope you stick around and 'talk' some more, I don't understand German but I'm open to trying. Spanish, French and well, any other language as well!

This wonderful world is very diverse which is why it is so wonderful. It takes all kinds, truly to make it go 'round. Yes, there are the party'ers and there are those who don't party and some are somewhere in between. I love them all.

So, the best thing to do is, if you don't want to party, don't. If they want to party, let 'em. I think we should respect differences, learn from them (yes, sometimes we learn that we don't want to be that particular difference) and learn to get along. And, my favorite, you can't change another person, you can only change yourself and your reaction to that person.

Sheesh, I'm not sure where all that came from (probably employee issues I have at work as a sup and trying to work out things mentally before addressing issues!). Anyway Bennett, welcome to you!!!!:D

Welcome Bennett ,

I'll not speak another language at ya, I'm still learning english. Nice to have you in our midst. Hope you enjoy your stay here. The people here are wonderful and there's even a few Buddhists. The people here have shown me there is much more to the "gay community" than portrayed in the media or in our own imaginations for that matter.

Pablo...

"straight-laced"??

a gay is just a straight in lace?

Welcome to Soulforce, Bennett. We're glad that you found us. I read your post about the white Party in Palms Springs. It's sad that that type of thinking exists but it does. This is the same attitude responsible for other deeds which are far worse.

I'm happy that you are seeking answers and hope we can be of help.
