While surfing the web this morning, I caught wind of a boy calendar featuring former Mormon missionaries that was produced by 31 year old Chad Hardy- a former missionary himself. Hardy apparently came up with the idea as a laugh.

He certainly knows his market.

Hardy says he gets e-mails on a daily basis about the project, and they're not all negative. A lot of Mormons are buying the calendar, even if as a gag gift. But that's not the only audience.

"I think the gay community is going to be big," he says. "We sell a lot of calendars to men."

Here's the myspace page..

And the site for the calendar...

Idle speculation of course, by this reader assumes that Hardy is gay, as well as a number of his chest-baring young men. It the idea offensive to Mormons? Undoubtedly. That said, it also reveals (ha!) that male sexuality is nothing to to feared, even among the faithful. Love makes the world go round- that's for sure.

You have to admire his entrepreneurial spirit.

I'm not te least bit offended by beefcake calendars, especially not one as "g-rated" as this one, but this makes me REALLY uncomfortable nonetheless. I can't imagine that these young guys would have signed on for this if they had understood that a part of the purpose was to arouse gay guys. If that is the case, they are being taken advantage of ... I don't think its right. Just my opinion.

LOL

So true.

My parents are Mormon, and thus many of their friends are, and one family has 10 kids, with five at home still.

I disagree wholeheartedly. It's not on a gay dating site or anything where it's exlusive to a gay audience: it's a product that's available to the public. I think that if you're willing to be seen a certain way in public, you should be able to deal with the fact that you'll be seen by the WHOLE public.
Likewise, when a guy goes walking around campus shirtless thinking about how he's going to impress the ladies, I think he needs to be ready to deal with the fact that he might impress some of the gentlemen as well.
