I attend a bimonthly fellowship of LGBT Christians. I am the only transgender person in the group. Most of the members are gay. I have been able to share numerous things about being transgender. They have shared with me many things about the gay community and being gay. One thing that rings clear is that my brothers and sisters are comfortable with their sexuality.

Over the past month, my love for the gay and lesbian community has deepened. There have been nights that I lie awake in bed weeping over you. What disturbs me the most is people who call themselves Christians have such a negative attitude toward gay people. How many men and women who love the Lord have left their church because of their sexual orientation?

I have asked myself why I discovered my transgenderism so late in life? I never went through many of things many have suffered and experienced. This I do know; that God's love is unconditional and without reservation. this is the love I desire for myself and for everyone. I am a member of American Veterans for Equal Rights. I joined them over joining a straight veterans group because I felt comfortable being with them.

I pray for the LGBT community daily. I want to share God's love and good news with men, women, and youth. There are many who want to know that someone loves them and cares about them. Just yesterday, I send a message to a gay man who lost his partner a year ago. He is still grieving over the sudden loss. I gave him my email so we can correspond. I wish that we could just sit together and pray and offer comfort.

I just want to conclude that I love you and care about you. I want to embrace Jesus example of loving unconditionally. I count you as my friends. I would love to know more LGBT people personally. That will come in due time.

In Love,

Gennee

Because, I acknowledge that as lesbian and gay persons, we have struggled through much of our lives to feel loved, connected, embraced by our church families. Yet, you feel our pain, when I cannot even begin to imagine the struggles you have encountered as a transgender person. I mean, I am honestly so humbled by your generosity, your willingness to hold us up in support, when you yourself have probably had to fight to be who you truly are meant to me.

I feel very appreciative that you are here among us. I also want to follow the example of Jesus and be as Christ like as I can be, which to me is different than being "Christian" in some circumstances. I hope to get to know you here as well.

Peace and Love to you, Vanessa :love:

I have cried too. Thank you for your message Gennee.

Just yesterday I was wearing the tee that Nathan designed, that says "I love my GLBT Christian friends. Please don't let their church abandon them." One of my straight Mexican friends read it and she made a giggling kind of sound so I asked "Well do you know that it happens that people are thrown out of churches for being gay?" and she said "Yes, I know! I love your tee shirt!!! You would think, of all places, a church would welcome EVERYone."
