From Schmitz Blitz (schmitzblitz.wordpress.com):

Mitt Romney issued the following press release (http://schmitzblitz.wordpress.com/2007/09/28/romney-protecting-kids-from-the-mere-thought-that-gay-people-exist/) this morning:

Last night’s debate was just the latest example of how out of touch the Democratic presidential candidates are with the American people. Not one candidate was uncomfortable with young children learning about same-sex marriage in the second grade. This is a subject that should be left to parents, not public school teachers. We need to strengthen our families by passing a federal marriage amendment and also insisting on marriage before having children. Change in Washington requires Democrats with the courage to stand-up to their ultra liberal base and do what’s right for our children.

I don’t understand how the mere knowledge of the objective fact that gay couples exist is harmful to children or the institution of marriage as a whole. I suppose the logic could go that if children learn about gays at a younger age, there is a higher chance that they might actually recognize and accept them as human beings, rather than a threatening national political issue.

Romney's pandering. I'm wondering how he thinks the Federal government is going to "insist on marriage before having children." Seems like we're going to have some kind of Federal Sex Police under President Romney.

I can tell you that (New Yorker here), during his time as mayor of NYC, Giuliani comported himself as the sex police, and despite living with a gay couple during his divorce from his wife (which he announced to her on TV), he is no friend of gay persons: he will sell us down the road in a New York minute. A big clue: he refused- as has his successor, Bloomberg, to allow the implementation of a law which would address anti-gay bullying and harrassment in public schools.

These guys are always playing the kid card. Pandering it is- certainly. But when it comes to actually protecting kids? Forget it!
