Hi all,
I have not been around much this month. My brother went into the hospital on Sept 4th. He had eight different infections going on in his body at once with one of them having a 75% mortality rate. Finally on the 21st, they sent him home saying the cultures were completely clean in his urine. I had to take him back to the hospital on the 23rd. His whole midsection had swollen and was flaming red in color. They readmitted him. His kidneys are twice the normal size and they are saying that they will stay that way. He just had several more tests today to find out if he is bleeding internally somewhere because he is severelly anemic. The infections that were clear are back and twice as strong. I have had to stay up at the hospital because if I do not they have forgotten to feed him. He is a C-5 quad and unable to feed himself, after they forgot to feed him on several occassions, it was no longer an option for me to come back home early. On a third shift, after they came and took vitals, he did not see anyone the rest of the shift, they had forgotten to put his blow light (a device he has to blow in to get a nurse) back where he could reach it with his mouth and his catheter had come off and he had to lay in urine for several hours. However, now he is on the surgical floor and things seem to have improved greatly as far as personal care. Please remember him and myself in your thoughts. This has been really stressful and we still do not have many answers.
