I registered because of the promo for "For The Bible Tells Me So". It seems like a powerful message. As a Christian, I'm sick and tired of the way some, many, most Christians abuse biblical and cultural truths to persecute a group of people who they conveniently know won't ever be themselves. The heck with other sins! We want to concentrate on homosexuality because we know that it's a "sin" that we won't have to "worry" about. News Flash! If homosexuality is such a big deal, how come it never made the TOP TEN? (Like, the ten commandments?) As a shrimp eater, looks like I'm going to have someone tell me that I'm going to Hell in a handbasket!

I hear ya! You will find in these forums many people (I'm one of them) who share your disgust with the way Christian extremists and the ignorant demonize lesbians, gays, etc. I look at it this way, if gays disappeared from the planet people like James Dobson wouldn't know what to do with themselves--they need someone to pick on, and the most convenient someone is us.

Hi Charles and welcome to Soulforce. I understand where you're coming from. As a transgender individual, this is very important to me and my trans sisters and brothers.

Hi, Charles!
Welcome!
I had the same reaction when reading Leviticus 18. The "mankind, as with womankind" stuff doesn't show up until Verse 22 -- second to the last of the "thou shalt nots", right before beastiality, and after all the various "nakedness uncoverings" of basically everyone in one's family and neighborhood!
Talk about priorities!

Charles,
It is horrifying to know people leave church on Sundays with the feeling that they are justified to torture individuals who homosexual. It is horrifying to me to read the stories on this site and know that children are being emotionally battered in their home via the church.

Welcome! Yous should definitely see the movie, it's amazing and it really challenges the fundamentalist beliefs in a personal and constructive way.

And welcome to SF, hope you stick around and become an active part of our community. It's a wonderful place.
Before I came out as gay, I came out on a few sites as a "lobster lover" just to test the waters. It went over pretty well, much better than when I came out as gay I must admit. The only good part about following some of the stuff in the Tenach is it makes it okay to get stoned.
