Has anyone seen this new Bisexual dating show on MTV? I am conflicted about it. On one hand it is good that bisexuality is being shown and discussed. On the other hand it seems pretty biphobic. They are making bisexuals out to look promiscuous and confused. Even the straight men are hitting on the lesbians on the show, they don't seem to understand that lesbians are not interested in men and that it is not some ploy to get men to be attracted to them.

As a general rule, I try not to take any dating show on MTV too seriously. I haven't had cable for awhile now, so I can't speak to this one in particular, but in general, I think they have in the past portrayed GLB folks the same as they're portraying everyone else: that is, promiscuous, shallow, and mean-spirited. I tried, but I really can't be offended by it when the straight people they've got are not only just as bad, but usually worse.

That is true Alecto, I think MTV has made strong and genuine efforts to have LGBT representation. I think all there dating shows are promiscuous though, and this does not reflect on MTV's thoughts about gays but rather just on sexuality in general.

:p....yeah -- i agree, people are basically getting sick of the same old :Drock/hip-hop/r&b bullsh*t..... and there is just this big upsurge from a new style coming out of Europe -- best place i've found it so far is a compilation series called 'euro club hits' on itunes -- or check this link: :pray:http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZSearch.woa/wa/advancedSearchResults?albumTerm=Euro+Club+Hits+Vol +

Okay, I watched A Shot at Love with Tila Tequila 2 the other day...
and as much as I think it's probably good that there is some mainstreaming of alternative sexuality going on......personally, I think that show is irritating. I'm not sure if I'm eloquent to list all the reasons why I find it so. I simply do. It's just...making sexuality into something trendy.
One problem many people have with bisexuality is that it has a tendency to be interchangeable with promiscuity. And I'm all for monogamy...but that's another Oprah...
It just bothers me to watch these people all compete for her that way...there's something just disgusting about a person with that kind of ego who would host their own show about getting "a shot at love," which isn't even about the love it seems so much as it seems to be about getting into her pants.....

I was disappointed that Tila chose Bobby instead of Dani. Thus I wrote a story where Tila and Dani falls in love instead
It's at This Site (http://www.tila-love.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2602)
Hope you enjoy it! :D

I haven't seen this program. However, too often bisexuals are portrayed as swingers. Many bi's are swingers but other bi's choose monogamy. I choose to only be with one person in a LTR for myself. If something happens to break up my long term relationship then I'm free to choose from either gender.

I've been a lot of places, and seen a lot of things. Not as much as some of you older folks, but in my limited experience, I did find that this was a fairly socially progressive move, and that it shows a little of what life is like for us. MTV owns LOGO, my favorite network (only on extended cable sadly), complete GLBT network. GLBT musicians, a few dating shows, excellent documentaries, independent film. I remember my first time watching. I was in love. I miss it. Very much. I need inspiration from other queers!
Yeah, I'm done now.

To be honest, I don't watch ANY realtiy show, I think they are all stupid. I would rather watch something that is madeup, I watch t.v. to escape.
I don't like the way shows like this make Bi's seem loose. Like you said, some are swingers, but many others are monogomous. From the people I know, the hetero couples are much more likely to swing than the bi friends I have, whom all are happily commited to one person.
Things are much more open in the gay community and this makes it seem that we are sick or perverted. In fact the same incidence of swinging, S/M activity and cheating happens in the straight community, but they just hide it more so we don't find out unless we are close(or not at all.)
