In response to concerns that I may not have a sense of humor, I thought it would be edifying to compile a list of things I do think are funny

Home Alone
Monty Python
Me falling in the swamp while trying to catch turtles and having to swim back to shore
My dog daisy investigating a drainage pipe under the road and coming out the other side
Patch Adams
Liar, Liar
Weird Al Yankavick
The time that I drew on the floor with crayons because my teacher told me to
The time a policeman came up to me at a train station because I looked lost and was carrying a huge bag of trash in a ritzy neighborhood
The time my mother chased a moose through the forest
The thought of teachers going shopping, having sex or doing anything human

Just some of the things I think are funny...

Excuse me, Meghan, just WHY are we teachers so humorous!? Have you been talking to my students? At least here online I expected to have a little dignity and get some respect. Now sit down, be quiet and get back to work, and enough of the spitwads! I mean it! Do we have to lose some recess here?

Oh, and they told me when I signed up, no sex for teachers. So just erase that thought from your mind.

Home Alone (okay, I'll go with remotely humorous)
Monty Python (Now this shows a truly refined, sophisticated sense of humor - the kind that finds humor in making fun of our sacred cows.)
Me falling in the swamp while trying to catch turtles and having to swim back to shore (having a sense of humor about yourself - priceless)
My dog daisy investigating a drainage pipe under the road and coming out the other side (probably had to be there - but I'm betting I would have found it funny as well)
Patch Adams (Yes, yes, yes)
Liar, Liar (even more yeses)
Weird Al Yankavick (in a sick, demented kind of way - I'm liking your sense of humor)
The time that I drew on the floor with crayons because my teacher told me to - The time a policeman came up to me at a train station because I looked lost and was carrying a huge bag of trash in a ritzy neighborhood - The time my mother chased a moose through the forest (these are all personal, but I can definitely appreciate the humor in them)
The thought of teachers going shopping, having sex or doing anything human (Okay, now this is just sick!)

Just some of the things I think are funny...

Progo, I think I also find funny what you find funny. I'm not sure, however, that is what people may be getting at when they say you don't have a sense of humor. (If they've said that - I hadn't read that anywhere, though)

People have, at times, told me I have no sense of humor. It has usually been when I discussing things about which I am passionate and driven, and in which I find no opportunity for humor. I'm guessing this is the same for you. So those people, in thinking I am humorless, are really thinking I take myself and my cause too seriously. To that, I generally say, "Pppphhhhlllltttt. Bite me."

You post most often about the same subject which is very personal, and drives your passions. This may lead others to think that you take yourself "too seriously". IF that concerns you, you could post more light hearted responses to some things that DO NOT incite or conflict with your passions. That may show people you have a sense of humor about yourself and about life in general. (This is what I do, with limited success - although I run the risk of just being seen as a buffoon - well, at least by u-dog, Pablo, Brent, Zerbie, tdogg, keltic .... but not by anyone who matters. :D)

Another option, which I DO NOT recommend, is to be less passionate about your cause(s). "Lighten up" is sometimes said to people who hit our raw nerves and show us our short-comings.

So, Progo, don't lighten up about those things that ignite your passions, just maybe post lighter responses to things that you wouldn't ordinarily waste your time on. It would be engaging "lightly" for relationship building, which in and of itself is a valuable exercise - sometimes. And it just might let other facets of your personality show though.

I really DO hope that nothing I have written here is construed as criticism - it's just that, by posting this thread, you have indicated a concern, sensitivity or need to respond to particular comments. You may not want to spend time here in lighter conversation - in which case, don't feel compelled by anything I've said. Just strike it up to the ramblings of an old, fat buffoon.

Well I flew the pants(She had changed from her jeans at work and was going to a party) of a co-worker's off the flagpole at WhattaBurger(which was next door to where I worked ) Back in my early twenties, does that count as a sense of humor...?What about listening to Bette Midler? And I could tell you a few stories about some of the drag queens back then that I knew.

Hey I used to get a roll out of those guys when they were backstage, they were always borrowing my make up. They were really talented though , I was basically the regular when it came to shows.Plus it was pretty fun going shopping with one friend of mine when he was picking out an oufit for the show(Like I had taste in dresses, back then I wore longer skirts, high boots, a sweater and a vest....sooooooo conventional(More like Dianne Keaton,ha,ha) I had a heck of a time wearing those spike heels though felt like I was walking on stilts, graceful thing that I was. Now what do I wear? A navy jacket, an earcuff, tee shirts, jeans... I don't wear makeup anymore except lipstick because I think I look unnatural in it.

"Somewheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeere over the rainbow........"

Here's a funny conversation:

I was in my music advisor's office chatting about life and I often like to get his reactions to certain questions, so I asked, "what would you do if I fainted in your office?" He said, "I would call 911." "What if I was faking?" I asked. "I would kick you," he said. "No-actually, I would shoot you." I said, "But would you really want to go to jail over me? I mean, would it really be worth it?" He said, "no one would know." "Really?" I said, my eybrows raised. "Yes," he said, "I would just take your body, and let it sink down into all the muck in the music storage room." I laughed. "Well, I'm glad you've thought about this," I said.

I just thought that conversation was hilarious coming from a professor who is so dignified, gentle and moral.

 Oh my... that is good. I love asking people things like that.
