My husband is a Witch and practicing Wiccan. He sent me this article regarding a Washington school district which has banned Halloween celebrations because they don't want to offend local Wiccans.

We both have decided that this was just a way to eliminate the celebration and to blame it on a group other than the school district. If anything we feel this will cause children to be resentful towards a group which is already misunderstood in our society.
I was curious if any of you may wish to add to our thoughts.:borg:

I suppose Halloween is also disreaspectful to dead folks(ghosts), household pets ( black cats), pirates, firemen, superheroes, and everyone else kids dress up like.
This has got to be a case of PC run amok.

I guees even in Wicca their those who find Halloween offencive. Yeah, I could understand Wicca being confuse by outsiders, who don't know any better, as devil worship, or the fact it is on of the most commercialize holiday next to christmas. But to prevent people from have as good time, thats just crazy.

I am wiccan and I LOVE Halloween, and most other witches I know love halloween in all of its macbre glory, though it we Call it Samhain(sa-wane), and It is a time to remember the dead.

I agree this may just be the schools way of passing the buck.

Everyone I know in that community LOVES both the spiritual holiday Samhain as well as the commercial fun of halloween.

I feel like it was some hardcore Christians who didn't like the commercial halloween, and then lo! A handy excuse!

Cause really, if it were about witch costumes, they could, say, ban WITCH COSTUMES. ::gasp::
