I was born in Kingstree, SC. My family has lived there 300 years - since before the USA existed. I am a descendant of small time planters who gradually turned into industrial workers & small farmers. I'm a Southerner, not a redneck.

I have worked on mission projects in Taiwan, Panama City Beach, Savannah, Frakes-KY, Charleston, DC, and several other places. I spent two years in Manila working with college students before entering Southwestern Seminary. I worked with International Students during seminary and also led revival weeks in Hershey-PA and Clifton-OH. My seminary studies focused on Missions, World Religions and Campus Ministry. Following seminary, I was the campus minister intern at Georgia Tech and eventually served as a Director of Missions for a Baptist Association in South Carolina. Oddly enough, this was in my hometown.

I knew after a few years in the ministry that I was gay and had planned to exit my conservative position to seek other oppotunities. However, I was outed before I intended to give my resignation and had to resign prematurely. It created some issue for me financially, but nonetheless I have spent the last few years working out my faith and lifestyle questions.

I actually live in a conservative suburban town called Alpharetta just outside Atlanta. I have great neighbors or I'd move closer to my church Oakhurst Baptist (http://www.oakhurtbaptist.org) in Decatur. I live with my kids: 2 cats, Tigger and Penelope; a soft haired wheaton name Mistletoe and a hamster named Baby. I am working in accounts payable at UPS while I look at the possibility of returning to the ministry. When I am not at work, I attend local SciFi conventions, participate in the Atlanta Outworlders which is a local SciFi fan group, volunteer at Good Mews cat shelter in Marietta and volunteer at the Atlanta Pride Festival.

Welcome.

There are Christians of all stripes here at Soulforce, as well as people of other religions and none. All of us share a concern for the rights of all people, but especially LGBT folks. And most, if not all, of us are on a life journey, which most of us describe as spiritual in nature. You should fit in just fine. The first rule here is to respect everyone's journey and perspective. The second flows out of the first: no gay-bashing of any kind, but you sound as if you already know that.

I'm a gay man in his 60s, involved in ministry in my Episcopal church. I teach a spirituality course with three other people. This semester's theme is the parables of Jesus and what they teach us about Jesus' life and our own.

I'm married to an FTM transman. My family has dissovled around us as he has pursued his God-given identity, meaning that our grown children have all but abandoned us. Soulforce is a very important part of my new family of choice.

Enough about me. Tell us more about yourself. Jump into the conversations in the other forums.

Welcome.

Sorry to hear about the upheaval and having to leave your ministry.
:(

You sound like you have lots of energy and enthusiasm for life and will find new venues for your passion any day now. Meanwhile, glad you're here.

Welcome!! Sorry about your troubles regarding your ministry. There has been a steady stream of former and practicing ministers joining in on the forums as of late. I'm sure you'll find some like-minded folks with whom you may connect. This is a friendly bunch.

We consider ourselves to be an online church of sorts around here, maybe not the same thing for you, but it sure seems like family for me much of the time. I am sorry to hear of your struggles, but seems like it was meant to be for you to find us here. Glad you are here with us, Peace, Vanessa
