There are alternatives to spending big bucks on internet security. These that are listed are reviewed by reputable sites such as zdnet, cnet, Wilder's security forum, PC magazine. A few are Comodo firewall( It now has intrusion detection built in to it), Got great reviews from PC magazine and on Wilder's,( Wilder's has people actually that test these things out as well) A-squared free scanner, superantispyware, Javacool's spywareblaster, prevx,Threatfire, avast anti-virus, arovax,Avira Antivirus, lavasofts adaware,AVG antivirus,Ashampoo firewall..
With all the new threats lurking around like rootkits, and trojans, and keyloggers (Scary stuff) Just having an antivirus or a anti-spyware and firewall to me is not sufficient security. I use a variety and also have intrusion detection. (some of this stuff if it leaks through to your system can actually shut down your firewall and render your antivirus useless. keyloggers can capture key strokes on your keyboard.
Prevx, has this on it's website:Home computer users remain vulnerable to each new (‘Zero Day’) cyber-attack during the critical period between the launch of a new attack and a “signature” update becoming available. Spyware tools only detect and clean up installed malware AFTER the infection has happened. Often threats are missed entirely by traditional security tools. Prevx Home STOPS ‘Zero Day’, Spyware and hack attacks and STOPS malicious software from installing on your PC.

Comodo is actually an excellent firewall , and is considered by some to be better than the payed versions. It has launched it's new version and has host intrusion prevention. So if any of you are on a tight budget, these are some good recommendations for security, you might find additional ones at Wilder's security, alot of the guys test the software there.

Frankly IE has alot of security holes, so other alternative browsers are safer like foxfire and Opera.Opera is super fast. And you are on the internet in no time. Here's a look at some of IE vulnerabilities http://secunia.com/product/12366/?task=statistics_2007es:
