So I just returned from an errand and checked my email inbox.
There were two new messages, ten minutes apart.
The first message was an item from our area's anti-gay policy group happily announcing the slated arrival soon in the valley of yet another Focus on the Family-sponsored conference.
The second one was an announcement from our Equality group of yet another anti-gay bias incident (men followed, epithets shouted, and beer bottles smashing a car windshield) in Scottsdale, making it something like 3 incidents in Scottsdale alone these past 12 months. Most of the incidents were attacks on gay men. :'( There was also an anti-transgender incident involving a Scottsdale business. :(
The Tribune has a reporter faithfully covering events relevant to the gay community in a friendly fashion, and so far, the Trib's comment section is filling up with people railing AGAINST hate crimes protections for the gay community in the valley. One person who supports legislation just slammed them, without providing any explanation why legislation is needed. It is so sad. I am tempted to register for an online account with the Tribune so I can post something cogent in response to their opposition, but lack the emotional energy right now. Anyone else want to step up to the plate?
Here's the local coverage:
