I'll most definitely give you #1. Jennifer Holliday

To that, I'll add #2. Aretha.

And of course,

#3. Maria Callas, in a class by herself

Sharing the #4 slot are my favorite Zerbinettas (Zerbinette?), so for # 4 we have: Hilde Güden / Rita Streich / Sylvia Geszty / Reri Grist / Edita Gruberova

Lastly, for yet another change of vein, no diva list is complete without
#5: Edith Piaf

Hmmm ... defining "diva" the most usual way, I'd go with Edith Piaf and so on ... but I could go another way ...

How about Pavarotti? Nureyev? Gene Kelly? Quentin Crisp? Dame Edna? (hee hee)

Or maybe Tallulah Bankhead ... Bette Davis ... Mae West ...

At any rate, this reminds me of the 1981 film "Diva" ... a really fun French movie ... the opera star playing the Diva role was Wilhelmenia Wiggins Fernandez (with the character name of Cynthia Hawkins) ... whether you like opera or not, a good film to rent : )

I think that a diva is any woman who totally dominates the scene, when she's on stage,

I'll go with Judy Garland, Edith Piaf of course, Tina Turner, RuPaul (hey, ya can't ignore a babe who is that tall, with that much attitude), and Barbara Streisand. (And I don't even LIKE Babs)

Honorable mention to Oprah Winfrey, Maria Callas, Diana Ross, Sarah Vaughn, and on her own scene, Hillary Clinton.

Peace and Love, Bruce Chris

No no, we definitely need a separate list for males.

BC, good luck surviving having allocated Callas to honorable mention.

The late Jimmy Page of Led-Zeppelin for the song "Stairway to Heaven" a great song to listen to and play, just don't do it in a guitar shop or you'll be kicked out.

1. Bette Midler (because she was supportive of gay rights when it wasn't a safe thing to do)
2. Madonna. I know, but...I can't help myself. Total ho for madonna.
3. Alison Goldfrappe.
4. Amy Lee
5. *don't say "cher", don't say "cher"* Um...Gwen Stefani?
