The story:
It all started with a teacher and students in Sudan. Gillian Gibbons, the teacher sentenced Thursday, Nov. 29th '07 to 15 days in prison because she allegedly insulted Islam by allowing her class of 7-year-olds to name a teddy bear, Mohammad (Muhammad or Mohammed).
Thousands of Sudanese, many armed with clubs and knives, protested Friday outside the presidential palace in Khartoum, demanding the execution. They burned pictures of Gibbons and called for her execution, chanting "No tolerance: execution," and "Kill her, kill her by firing squad." "Those who insult the Prophet of Islam should be punished with bullets," demonstrators shouted after Gillian Gibbons, 54, was jailed for 15 days.

My two cents:
Living in a country where Kathy Griffin can say "Suck it, Jesus! This award is my god now.", it is difficult for me to grasp the actions of the Sudanese.

Anyone care to weigh in on this topic?

I don't understand it either. These people are crazy fanatics. I am thankul that I live in America where we have separation of religion and goverment. At least most of the time. It does spill over. But we wouldn't execute someone who named aa bear Jesus.

These poor people would seem to be the product of fear, ignorance, reactionary conservative Islam, and probably anti-Westernism and anti-Americanism, ALA (Not Alah!) Bush/Cheney. And probably with a few well placed rabble rousers thrown in.

I don't understand it either. These people are crazy fanatics.

But then, that's pretty much the definition of an Islamic fanatic.

And on behalf of Teddy Roosevelt, I take offense !

I think that by looking at what happened to Kathy Gibbons, we all can learn why theocracy is dangerous.

I feel really bad for this woman. I hope that the situation gets resolved quickly.
