My computer keeps freezing up

I have cleaned my history, used adaware, restored to an earlier date, deleted unused programs. Yet my computer keeps freezing up as i type and goto sites, it does it for like a few seconds but it keeps happening and is really annoying.

Why is this happening and what can I do?

I have a desktop. I usually hibernate it when I shut it down, but whenever it starts acting up I restart it, and that often takes care of the bugs.

And I have a suspicion that laptops need more care in keeping their undersides cool.

laptop only a few months but i have done some things and it seems to be good now

Possibly a defrag, a registry cleaner, or a check on the 'puters performance to see what it is using in resources. Other than that a scan for some hard to detect nasties like rootkits, webroot offers a free scan. Might also want to check with some high tech forums like Wilder's security forum and http://www.techtutorials.info/
