Is it just me or does everyone have a WalMart that had christmas trees up before halloweeen candy? And there is a radio station that plays holiday music nonstop starting November 1.

I love most Christmas music. All the old carols. Holly and IVy and good kings bringing flesh and wine to yonder peasants. I like some of the modern stuff. One of my favorites is about a girl named Maria who finds a hurt bird and takes care of it. ON christmas eve, she is ashamed because she has no fancy present for the Christ child. She hears a voice say," Maria what brings you to me? If the bird in the cage is your offering, open the door let me see." So Maria does and the bird flies up and sings and it's the first nightingale. It make me cry whenever I hear it. Big ol' buzzed redneck gets all sentimental, LOL.

But for every good song there are crummy ones.
The worst though has got to be the "Christmas Shoes" ACK! Makes me wanna shoot the radio. If you haven't heard it, it's about a guy who is shopping. A kid in front of him asks him to please give him money to buy these shoes for his mother. Turns out his mom has a terminal illness and the kid wants to give her shoes so she looks good when she meets JEsus. Maudlin Maudlin Maudlin.

Anyway? What carols do y'all like and don't like?

OOH! I almost forgot the queerest carol! Deck The Halls! Honey, my apparrel is gay every day not just at Yuletide! (-:

Clay Aiken singing anything Christmas.

Nat King Cole- The Christmas Song

O Holy Night

Anything that our church congregation sings together on Christmas eve together at our service.

Mary Did you know? This one has to be one of my all time favorites.

Also, the version of Silent Night sang by Garth Brooks.

I agree Redneck, The Christmas Shoes is way over the top. For fun, I enjoy Dominic the Donkey. And I want a Hippopotamus for Christmas. Hysterical.....:love::love:

I like grandma got runned over by a reindeer, i think it's funny in a redneck camp sort of way. I also like the dixie chicks song "merry christmas from the family" where they talk about the crazy relatives and going to the quickie mart for diet slice and cigarettes and cans of fake snow.

I love "I heard the bells on christmas day," based on a poem by Longfellow, "O Little Town of Bethlehem," "The Little Drummer boy," "Mary's Song," M.W. Smith's "Emmanuel," "O Come Emmanuel," "Welcome to our World," "What child is this?," "Night of Silence," and "Gesu Bambino", "God rest ye Merry gentlemen, Aretha Franklin's "Joy to the World" "The Hannukah Song" and the Transiberian orchestra's "12/24 Sarejevo" and "A Mad Russsian's Christmas."

For some reason, "It's a Holly Jolly Christmas" and "Rockin' Around the christmas tree" annoy me-they seem so fake-happy and stereotypical.

My favorite is Steve Vai's version of "Christmas Time is Here" (the Charlie Brown Christmas song).

....is Nancy Lamont singing I'll be home for Christmas from her Christmas album titled Just in Time for Christmas. The simple arrangement as well as the voice give me chills each time I hear it. Nancy was a wonderful singer who appeared on Broadway, as who's career, sadly, was cut short by cancer.

And if Lessons and Carols are involved, I really like In the Bleak Midwinter as well Lo, How a Rose Ere Blooming. Also Once in David's Royal City.

Heck! Once one starts thinking about it, there are a lot of wonderful tunes.
