I had hoped to find friends and support here!
Be well,
Keshet
Wlcome and Shalom Keshet,
Are you Jewish by birth or conversion? I am guessing conversion since you were a Christian with AOG previously? Unless you were a messianic Jewish person., lots of varities out there. I find it very curious that you went from Christian to Jewish since Christians like those in AOG believe that "Jesus is Messiah." I could see them judging you as going in reverse! Did you leave Christianity soley because of your identity as lesbian and the conflicts of AOG Christianity with that? Do you see yourself accepting Christianity again, given the knew interpretations you have been introduced to by Mel? Am I asking way to many questions? sorry.
Welcome again. I look forward to your participation in our nifty community.

Good to have you here! Thanks for joining our merry band! :D:)
I, myself, am not a Jew...well, not strictly speaking, anyway; I do have honorary status, though. :D:cool:
(And my boyfriend sings professionally at a North Shore shul. :D)
Welcome aboard!

Keshet it is wonderful to hear that you found a synagogue let alone an LGBT friendly one in North Carolina. Here in New York there are many friendly denominations, and even ones that are primarily LGBT churches and synagogues, so it is wonderful to hear you found a resource where you are.

I am Jewish by birth and was for a long time Orthodox, then for a while Conservative and then reform and finally renewal. My husband and I retired a few years back and moved to Tzfat in the north of Israel where we thought we would live out the rest of our lives. However the Ultra Orthodox faction of that city convinced us both beyond the shadow of a doubt that their stronghold on Israel and their particular brand of Judaism bridges on being a cult! We were most unwelcome in that place, we learned first hand what pain can come from trying to fight a mold into which you must pour all the remants of your former self, forsaking all that you know, believe, feel, and care about to become "one of them". So after many long months of trying we returned here to California, where while people may be strange they are at least fairly open to every sort of humaness! I am curious too, as to why you became Jewish but I don't think the why of such things is very important in that larger scope of things. If it is comfortable for you, if is feels right to your soul than that is where you should be! http://meamp1945.spaces.live.com/default.aspx?mkt=en-US&partner=Live.Spaces

Have any of you bothered to read this lady's blog? I did and found it refreshing. We are all so used to being labeled one thing or the other. We fight for the rights of this group or that group. What if we just all fought for the rights of HUMANS. In other words everyone is treated with human dignity and respect. Wouldn't it bring everyone closer together? For myself, I choose human!
