I need a good idea for the float for our young adult ministry!!!

Something that will be "cool"... draw attention... be fun... and communicate a brief message.

I don't know if this fits what you want, but we are focusing at our church on building a bridge between gay and straight churches and so I wanted us to construct a bridge of some sort with the planks being named things like peace, love, joy, harmony, empathy, unity, reconciliation, etc. Plus my 10 reasons God loves Gay people on it.

btw, do you have any ideas for my post on reasons God loves gay people?:)

hmmmm...

If having big hair & wearing dresses was good enough for Jesus, it's good enough for gay people. (drag queens) :D

Pleeeeease NathanATX,
With all respect and admiration (which I do have a great deal for you from what I've seen of the work and time and obvious compassion you have) all I pictured after your last idea was Christ hanging on the cross in a gown, curlers, cheap jewelry, glitter in his beard and mascara tears... That would fit the described parameters (and actually inspires me to some form of art) not to mention be an eye ripping out of your head statement, but, NO No no nononono. I know this is not what you meant, but the jump is too easy to make...

How about something more historical... A vignette of (? first known gay--- to Will and Grace, or?) (yowch :a careful satire of Phelps' sign happy protests turned on its head?) Drags a classic, and by no means unChristian, but perhaps a tad overdone...

hmmm... I have wanted to come up with a halloween costume as a GayChristian mix of stereotypes. I tend to like clever bad taste... yikes, a drag Christ? Jesus Chrissy? I'll blame you ..;)

Drag queens....parade.....OK -- now I've got the song "Drag Queens in Limousines" running through my head! LOL! :D

No, really -- are y'all familiar with Mary Gauthier's music? You might like it -- she's sort of alt/country/folk/gothic -- hard to define. But Drag Queens in Limousines is one of my favorite songs of hers, and I can sort of picture a float in the Pride Parade going down the street with Mary singing "Drag queens in limousines, nuns in blue jeans, dreamers with big dreams, they all took me in..." over the loudspeaker.

Well, just thought I'd share. Wish I had a better idea for a float! If I come up with one, I'll let you know. I like pnggrad's bridge idea.

If you're interested in checking out Mary's music, you can find her stuff at www.marygauthier.com. She's pretty cool, and she's "family," which is even better. :)

How about a float with people painted (either fake ones or maybe live ones in simple but colorful clothing) in all different colors of the rainbow. The people hold hand in pairs - some homo, some hetero. Even people in the pairs are different colors - to represent how each individual is so different.

You could put a quote behind them like
- "All you need is love"
- "The only queer people are those who don't love anybody"
- "Everybody wants to be loved"
- "The important thing is not the object of love, but the emotion itself."
- "Love is never wrong"

I know this is after the fact and it doesn't relate to the above, but I didn’t want to start a new thread just for this, plus the thread title's perfect.

I got this idea for a float the other night as I was waking up and I haven’t been to a pride parade in a while, and I was wondering if anyone is knows if this is already being done or to what extent it’s being done.

After the anti-gay vitriol of the last “election,” I know the timing couldn’t be better, and with all the effort put into floats that recognize sponsors and city organizations and utilities (at least the last I saw in Chicago), it’s worth mentioning.

Basically it would be a float listing the names on the sides of all our nemesis' organizations, American Family Association, Focus on the Family, Concerned Women for America, the Family Research Institute etc., blasting refrains from songs like the Thompson Twins “Lies lies lies” (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YoCWopvArfo) and giving out pamphlets on how they are all connected with and/or use “information” and “research” from organizations like The Family Research Institute headed by Paul Cameron (responsible for some of the most heinous "studies" and "statistics" being touted by the theocratic right as truth).

Give a few examples of exactly how he/they intentionally and dishonestly manipulate and use “data” to create “facts,” that the rest of them then use knowing full well that it is false and then list a website or two or ten where they can find more information.

"The Six Roads of Deception" (http://www.joebrummer.com/SixRoadsofDeceptionPart1.pdf) on the blog portion of Joe's site www.joebrummer.com explains what I'm talking about if you're not familiar with these "research" techniques. (Joe do you mind that I linked directly to this or would you prefer that I just type out your site url and explain where to find it? :))

Possibly even an Ex-gay fraud float too passing out information on how they are being used by the aforementioned organizations to dress up their hatred (hatred in drag if you will), wearing signs or t-shirts like “I’m not having sex with my wife right now, I’m ex-straight!” Not that I want to attack “ex-gays” personally but they lie too and in addition are guilty by association (they endorse and spread the lies of the others).

Maybe costumes like wolves in sheep’s clothing, Preachers dressed in money, or two faced preachers, one side looks like Jesus the other side like the devil.

Is this going on as far as anyone knows or what’s the closest you've seen?

Pnggrad, that sounds awesome!! If you get that done, please take some pics, I think it would not only make a great float, but would be a great display somewhere, anywhere! :good:
