Hi dykeliberation here,
I'm a young lesbian, hippie( sort of) who just wants to make the world a better place. I want to be able to live the world where i am not hated by people because of who I love or are capable of loving. I am never want to get married but if I decide to get married it needs to be my partner's and I's choice not the choice of some government. I get so upset, and sad when I hear people say its just wrong of gay people to get married. Or we should be allowed to adpot children or we are seeking "special rights.'' We are not seeking special rights just equal rights. I am an actvist and have been one for about 5 years now.
I am twenty years old now and I want to be a preschool teacher I want to start teaching children the dangers of bigotry as young as possible. I also want to revamp the education system. It is a common mis belief I feel that teachers are supposed to be preparing children for life. I believe that we are supposed to be teaching them to learn and giving them the tools they need to prepare themsleves for life and for their oarents to prepare them for life. Life is hard but it doesn't have the grades and same pressures as school. Grades are no messure of intellgence. The truth meassure of intellgence is the application of knowledge when completing tasks. I think we need to teach children this and do simple teacher evaluations and elimate grades and emliminate deadlines. children should feel they are learning to learn not learning to earn the grades. Anyway, I am also a writer and musican, and a painter and a good friend. I resepct others but only if they respect me in turn. I love music, and poetry and being one with nature. I like to create things of beauty and spread the word of love wherever I go. I am an extremely passionite person. I am currently trying to break free from the things and from my family not because I don't love them but because and theuse they are unknowingly holding be back. I want to travel around and play music and spread good vibes and then finish my degree. All this is possible if I just decide to find a way to make it happen I will. Anything is possible if you work for it and want it bad enough. So onward and upward we all climb

That is a tall list of goals you seem to have set. And as for children having to actually learn something other that passing written tests, learning to learn even, well, gee whiz, the people behind "No Child Left Behind" probably wouldn't like you at all.

Hey, some of our best members are known by the company they don't keep, and I think you'll get along just fine here.

Stick around and meet the members, and give us your opinions on whatever comes up.

Peace and Love, Bruce Chris

P.S.: If I was forced to make a choice, I'd much rather be a Faggot that a Biggot.

Well hello. :D

Yeah, that is some set of goals. Well but, you have time. (You will need it.)

Anyway, great intro! NJ eh? I originated there, but migrated west in stages.

What kind of yoga do you enjoy?

Hello and welcome to the forum. I will be getting my bachelor's degree in childhood education in May. I Will be taking a test for teacher's certification in Februaary. I agree with you about grades and intelligence. I have some options to me because I have tutored adults also.

You have some wonderful interests. I am a writer myself. What kind of things do you write? What type of music do you enjoy? Love to know more about you.

I am new here also and have had such an amazing response. It sounds like you are doing just what you need to do; good for you. You are young, and you have beautiful ideas--that can take you as far as you are willing to go...

I am a high school student, but I am also one who sees things from all angles. I am the straight A, quiet student, who sits and gets my work done. But, I feel we shouldnt have written tests like that. I am close to most of the teachers in my high school and a few of them and myself were discussing the SAT and ACT because this student made a 29 on his ACT the first time. But, he is the student who is never in class and almost fails. So, we were discussing this and we all agreed we shouldnt have written tests like that...I mean on a multiple choice test, if you can guess good then you are ok...BUT that doesnt truly test what you know.

I know I dont like taking tests, but I study for everything! I have a History teacher and I really enjoy her class. Our test are essay question tests. Instead of multiple choice, fill in the blank, or matching, she gives us a list of people or something and we have to write about some about them/it. If it is a person we have to describe them and tell what they did and what affect it had.

I actually like these tests because I feel like I am actually learning something. The people who dont know it, fail it. There is no other choice.

But, anyways, I totally agree with what you said about education! :D

Welcome to Soulforce. A funny thing happened to me on the way to the office........My co-worker told me he could imagine me as a hipppie back in the 70's becuase I have so much passion and am not afraid to speak my opinion. Actually, I think its in part that I don't wear makeup to work or much even if I go out. He told me that he could visualize me fighting for Gay rights by chaining myself to the Whitehouse:lol: He is in part right, but at 38 I am too old to be THAT radical. I pass the torch to you guys, the younger generation. Carry it with pride, becuase I believe you CAN make a difference.

Oh ya gotta be kidding?!!? What does a number have to do with passion and outspokenness? If you really want to participate in direct action, DO IT!! (Not necessarily chaining to the White House, but, if there's an appropriate time and place for civil disobedience and ya wanna do it, why not? We need people who are willing.)

Heck, if I wanna engage in radical activism when I'm 38 or when I'm 83 I will. Who cares about numbers? Come on, you 'n' me we'll be total neo-hippies 50 years from now. How's that sound? ;) Totally fun, huh? ;)
