Well, yesterday at work I was chatting with Brooke and I asked her what church she went to.
"Er, I don't do church.>_>"
"Really? Why?:?"
"Ah, they tend to not like lesbians."
"Well, not every church is like that-"
"Pretty much every church is." Ouch.
So I asked her is she was something of a non-chuch-going Christian (although I pretty much saw where this conversation was going...)-her family was Southern Baptist (whatever the hell that is).
"What are you?"
"Agnostic"
("$h!t")
Yeah, you can probbie guess how I felt after that...seriously pissed off.
It gets on my nerves how the church is causing so many potentially good-natured, impressionable people to go astray. I tried to find something else to say, but I knew that it wouldn't be possible to change someone, thanks to the whole free-will factor that God programmed into us.
I honestly can't put any more of my feelings into words...there's too many. However, the Religous Right deserves a total arse-kicking for what they're doing (forgive my negativity, Father).

Just positing the possibility that this person might possibly have come to a conclusion aligning herself with agnostic without the whole gay thing. And, also, that it's not all that terrible. ::cringes at the word "astray"::

It's nice when you're positioned to be able to say, "Well, my church isn't like that. We have a gay organist, lesbian Sunday school teachers, and our altar is dressed by gay men, which is why we have the most stylish sanctuary in town."

I once heard a noted religious leader say (It was on Public Radio, and no, I don't remember his name), that religion is not about what you believe, it is about how you treat other people.

By that standard, I would believe that Brooke and Zerbie are on board, whether they know it at this moment or not.

And, I admit that that I often do not have the in-the-moment Soul-Mind (Just what is it called again?) to do that all too often. Especially when things get tense, and I do, too. I need to learn how to make it work for me, at those times.

Namaste', Bruce Chris
