Hello Everyone!

This is my first time visiting Soulforce, but have heard much about it! Thanks to the audio of Mel White's visit a few years ago with the radio hosts at GCN Radio, I was able to visit Soulforce today, although I'd heard about it from others as well.

I am glad to be here! I don't have much time right now to tell you much about myself since I must leave for work in a half hour, but I am a Sociology Major at Lynchburg College, Lynchburg, VA and have been with my first ever female partner, Ruth, for 2 years (our 2 year anniversary being on Dec. 31st 2007).

It has been a long and hard road, though for the most part the best road I could have traveled. Sure, I wish my mom and dad would be accepting enough to at least talk to me about my sexual orientation with them without it turning into World War III, and I wish they would allow Ruth to come to their house, however, I know that even after I came out to them two years ago, some people never to come to an acceptance of gays, which is sad.

I am happy to have my sexual orientation and faith reconciled and be able to promote love and acceptance to all people just as Mel White has done here at Soulforce.

I hope to get to know everyone here at the Soulforce forums and cannot wait until I'm off of work tonight and can see the messages here people have posted!

God Bless You All,
Mary Beth

So glad that you finally found your way here. Congrats on your union with your partner, and happy anniversary. My partner and I have been together for almost eleven years total (it would be twelve but we split for about a year). We are also raising our ten year old daughter who is a total joy. Soulforce is one of the best places/organizations that I have ever encountered, and I feel proud to be associated with it. Come around as often as you can!!! Peace and love, Vanessa :pray:

Welcome to the gang Mary Beth and congrats on having reached the two year mark. It's great to have another Soc. major on the boards. Maybe we can help each other with home work. ;)

Welcome Mary Beth,

You found a wonderful place. Congratulations on your 2 year anniversary!
:):):D

So what kind of focus do you have within sociology? I assume one chooses a special area of focus in a discipline like that?

Anyway. Nice to have you here.

Hi Mary Beth,

Your statement in your post was so powerful & beautiful:

"I am happy to have my sexual orientation and faith reconciled and be able to promote love and acceptance to all people just as Mel White has done here at Soulforce."

I just graduated with a double BA in Psycology & Sociology at the age of 50. It was the challenges my professors posed to me from the first class I sat down in that shattered my beliefs formed by a Fundamental/ Pentacostal religious upbringing because it caused me to think critically out loud. I was always a dubious person about religious leadership anyway.

At first my education caused a nervous breakdown. That experiences was an aperture for real growth because I was blessed with a curious mind.

Anyway, I'm pretty new here too. What I am enjoying is the ability (with or without the issues of sexual orientation) to discuss, or read discussions about faith and the nature of a loving God. The quality of discourse is amazing & beyond anything available to me elsewhere. Many of us need to have our "faith reconciled" for many different reasons. What a relief when it happens!

Glad you're here.
Donna
