Lucky me, I received an Ipod nano for Christmas. :D
While I visited with relatives, sweetie charged it and downloaded some stuff onto it. Meanwhile, I kinda forgot I had it.

Today I decided I want to use it. Well - how the heck do you adjust the volume on this thing?!? Does anyone know? Does it have to do with the volume you had on the computer when you downloaded the stuff?

Anyway, I can't find a volume control, and this stuff is SO loud it is EXCRUCIATINGLY painful. I spent close to an hour fiddling with it trying to find a way to adjust the volume, but all I managed to do was switch tracks or start/stop a jillion times, and ended up trying to stuff the headphones into my ears on TOP of a pair of foam earplugs. That didn't work, there wasn't enough room in my ears for both.

Can anyone tell me how to control the volume on this thing????

Learn how to use iPod's controls.

Navigate and select items

Use iPod's wheel, Select button (also called the Center button — it's in the center of the wheel), and Menu button to go back and forth through iPod's menus and to select menu items.

To select an item, use the wheel to scroll to the item, then press the Center button. If the item has a right arrow (>) next to it, selecting it leads to another list of choices. Press the Menu button to go back to the previous menu.

Change volume

You can adjust the volume when you see the Now Playing screen by turning iPod's wheel. Turn it to the right to turn up the sound. Turn it left to turn down the volume.
Move through a song

Press the Select button when you see the Now Playing screen to see where you are in a song. A diamond symbol indicates the point in the song that is selected. Scroll to any point in the song. The diamond symbol moves as you scroll, and the elapsed time and time remaining indicators change. The song continues playing from the point where you stopped scrolling.

Show and change a song's rating

With iPod 2.0 software or later, pressing the Select button twice when you see the Now Playing screen shows the song's rating. Turn the wheel to set or change the rating.

Next/Fast-forward

In the Now Playing screen, pressing the Next/Fast-forward button skips to the next song in the list. Holding the Next/Fast-forward button forwards through the current song.

Previous/Rewind

In the Now Playing screen, pressing the Previous/Rewind button skips to the previous song in the list. Holding the Previous/Rewind button rewinds through the current song.

Power on and power off

To turn iPod on, press any button. To turn it off, press and hold the Play/Pause button.

Fifth Generation iPod controls (similar to any iPod with a Click Wheel).

The Menu, Next/Fast-forward, Previous/Rewind, and Play/Pause buttons appear around the wheel on earlier iPod models and any iPod with a Click Wheel including iPod nano, Fifth Generation iPod (iPod with video), iPod mini models, iPod (Click Wheel), iPod photo, and iPod with color display.

The iPod (dock connector) models have the control buttons in a row above the scroll wheel.

You've probably figured this one out already Z, but it helps to not put the earbuds in until you adjust the volume down then you can adjust the volume up as tolerable once the earbuds are in.

My iPod is my single most valuable item - I use it everywhere all the time, at the gym, at home, esp when i travel (it's great for sleeping on the plane!). Steal my jewelry, Tv whatever, but don't touch the iPod!!!

Tdogg!!! Missed ya - we haven't chatted much lately.

Yeah, I did figure that out. I laughed so much when I read that all I had to do was rotate that little wheel - should have thought of that. It's SO easy, and scrolling through goes so much faster - it should have been intuitive. But there I was, gently pressing down on the 4 points of it, instead.

Yeah, I think I'm gonna love this toy. It's seafoam green, btw.

Nice color! Mine is classic black but I have 2 hard cases, pink & green. I want to get a skin tho, it doesn't fit in my iHome to charge in the case. Spoiled! The new iPods are touch screen now, like the iPhone. But no justification for that, mine works perfectly well! Welcome to the "i" family!!

Thanks! I'm still just gradually figuring out how to enjoy my new toy. Used it today and I notice I need a regular carrying case. DH got me the armband so I could wear it while working out. But some kind of regular case would be better for non-workout use.
