I mourn the death of Heath Ledger, who made me cry because he cried in a film that gave meaning to so many of us, both gay and straight.
May he rest in peace.

A great sadness at any age, but at 28 it is tragic. May God surround and comfort his family and friends.

That was a totally poignant Brokeback montage.
Good stuff Daniel, thank you.

Fred Phelps' Westboro Baptist to Picket Heath Ledger Funeral
Something must be done to stop this atrocity from happening.

This is such a tragedy. To have been what appeared to be such a genuine human being, AND on top of that to portray Ennis DelMar so sensitively and genuinely. I sobbed in that movie because of his portrayal, the realness of it. And Michelle and their little girl left behind.
It is really awful that persons like Fred Phelps can say the nasty, awful things that they do about Heath Ledger, as well as all of us here, and feel so justified in it. He is no Christian in my mind......:'(:'(

That man really does not know when to stop, I can't believe anyone puts up with his crap. You don't picket funerals.

Didn't a group in Laramie visually block the Phelps idiots?
Maybe a visual shield so that they're out of sight?
Their behavior is so evil it's amazing.
Leave it out of sight - block it with something.

I heard about that. My schoolmates were generally uncaring. Some of them almost seemed glad to see him go. They were very insensitive, and while we generally are assholes about celebrities, Heath was an amazing man and will be missed. A pretty face, an intelligent mind, and a beautiful spirit are hard to find in a man. I'll miss what he brought to the screen, and to our discussion tables.
Daniel,
That was really well done (the montage). The movie was such a statement on arrested love, life ended prematurely, unfulfilled. Strangely prophetic. The last scene where he hugs the shirt, just stabs me.

You and me both brother.
Funny, I happened to catch the last half of the movie on HBO last week and cried during that scene. And when I saw the movie in the theatre, I balled like a baby. And I wasn't the only guy doing so. I think gay men in their 30's, 40's and beyond really got the impact of this film. Younger men? They may not be quite aware of the price that was paid by those who came before them.
And you are right. It is strangely prophetic.
Robert- your fellow students were 'glad' to see him go? It's another thread my friend, but you have to get the hell out of there, and surround yourself with people who do care.
Let us all find- strive for- make our- happiness in ways big and small: by not being afraid and solitary as Ennis Del Mar.
To give credit where credit is due....the montage is from Utube.

It also hits those of us who tried to be straight, got married and had kids. The whole movie reminded me of what my life was like while I was trying to appear straight, and I was dying inside. I cry plenty during the movie. I bought the dvd as soon as it came out. I have never watched it at home though. it's just so painful for me.

This is so sad, couldn't believe the news when it flashed on the computer screen. It's almost shocking, but unbelievably tragic for all involved. Not only have we lost an amazingly talented and beautiful young man, but a little girl will grow up not knowing her father, with only a possibility of some vague memories.
Fred Phelps is no Christian, he's an evil imposter. He wouldn't know Christ's love is Jesus fell from the sky and landed on his head. I'm afraid that wouldn't even deter him from his hideously evil ways. That man is a monster.

She has been the one in my thoughts and prayers since I heard. I was shocked to see the news yesterday. But I was even more shocked today when some of the "good Christians" I work with kept making jokes about his death and Brokeback Mountain. I don't even think most had seen the movie. I just hope and pray that his daughter isn't subjected such jokes as she grows up.

The following link from the Western Australian has some moving information.

One thing makes me happy: unless Mr. Phelps can get his ass to Australia, I doubt very much that there will be any picketing of Heath's funeral. Mr. Phelps is in hock up to his ears right now- something like 11 million- after losing a court case regarding his protest of a miliary funeral.
May this beautiful and talented young man rest in peace. And may his family find some comfort in that so many loved him- both on the screen and off.

They'd also have the Australian immigration (for visas) and legal system to deal with. Australia has a deep dislike and general lack of tolerance for all forms of religious extremism. This, in combination with their announced plans to picket a "favored child's" funeral, would not bode well for the Phelps caln even getting into the country - and rightly so, as far as I'm concerned.

That's where the Phelp's clan ended up: in front of cameras, trying to get some air time.

From what I've read the actually funeral for Mr. Ledger (LA) was private and not picketed.
