this place is dead. very little discussion, no passion, no scandal, and infrequent postings. let's fight!

according to Google, today is the 50th Birthday of the Lego brick!
http://cache.lego.com/1033/anniversary.htm

however, some prefer Lincoln Logs (http://lincolnlogs.knex.com/?XCARTSESSID=f35e1bac16d598517a99e4cb212b90b2)

State your preference and defend your answer!

I am now coming out of the closet to admit it.

Why Lincoln logs, you ask?

I love the look of the completed log cabin, the green roof slats, how you feel like you are building something when it is practically being done for you.

I think I am Lego-challenged. To be frank, they intimidate me.

Keltic, what do you prefer? I bet it's Legos. More colorful, more variety, it kind of harkens to being the artistic creature that you are.

Right or wrong?!?!?!:lol::love:

"Lincoln Logs or Legos."

Feh!

You people are stuck deep into your dichotomous categorical hegemonic thinking. Tsk tsk. :disagree::disagree:

Why should you mono-toy-als dominate the discussion? Building-toy orientation is far more complex than has been heretofore acknowledged. In fact, they range across a wide experiential spectrum of possibilities. While some may always prefer Legos, and others may always prefer Lincoln Logs, do not discount those whose interest may shift over time from one to the other, both, or even neither.

I myself am squarely in the middle of the toy-ality spectrum; my building toy of choice is the Tinker Toy. Do not invisibilize the Tinkertoyals!

I, of course, have not voted.

I love the lines and organic feeling created by the Lincoln Logs. You know, that they were created by Frank Lloyd Wright's son, John Lloyd Wright. You can definitely see the influence.

I also love the variety of buildings that can be created with Legos.

No, as a moderator, I can not declare my allegiance for either of the choices. It is too risky. I find that I can not state my true opinions on such weighty issues, my inbox will be flooded with cries of foul play.

Zerbie: Why do you have to be so difficult? Why don't you just pick one of the choices??? Follow the rules; you know, it is dissenters like you that create the problems in the first place. Don't you know your place? The question was Legos or Lincoln Logs, there was no "other" category on this thread. You must have mistaken this place for one where you may have an expressed opinion of your own.

As for you, keltic, that is one, big, bad cop out. If the leader/facilitator isn't willing to take a side, where are we, anyway!!

Zerbie, I'm with you all the way!

Tinker Toys Rule!!!

And I am tired of being discriminated against just because I am in the minority and not like most of the rest of you. There! I admitted it. I LIKE TINKER TOYS! OK, throw me out of your group. Ridicule and marginalize me. I just can't stay in the closet any longer.

PS: In case you can't tell, I haven't taken my medicine today yet.

Legos? Lincoln logs? Thee are not plain. Thou must only play with plain toys. Wooden blocks in simple shapes are G-d's choice. Nay, even Lincoln logs are too fancy. Thou must whittle blocks for thine children; only then wilt thou not burn with brimstone.

Bloody lightweight when it comes to a good scuffle, aren't you Keltic? Afraid of few snippy little PM's are we? Hide behind your moderator pinafore, will you?

Have a spine, man.

Dichotomous categorical hegemonic thinking - what they hell are you trying to do - exert your power to split us into camp toys - oh, excuse me, toy camps? And, by the way, did someone recently buy you a dictionary?

You know, people like you really piss me off. You think that because we have an opinion - that we can actually state a preference of two choices offered, rather than just be milk-toast fence-sitters who throw in an obscure and inferior third choice just to obfuscate the discussion - that we are somehow less than you.

Now, why isn't this a surprise?

I might have known that it would be you, along with Zerbie, who pulls out the "poor little Tinker Toy" card. "Oh, oh - I'm marginalized because I played with Tinker Toys. I can't help it."

Zip it, Tinker Boy, the toys you play with are the least of your worries.

Now, here - here we have someone with a true grasp of the fundamentals of construction toys. Talks funny - but I can overlook that as long as it serves my purposes.

I find that legos offer more freedom in building shapes (and the colors are prettier). Then there's erector sets that are all skeletal, harsh metal but kinda neat in their own right.

Lincoln logs are more fun to burn.

Yes, I am a pyro.

Legos are more fun to throw.

All in all, my decision is for the flammable ones.

Let's see, do the math:

I'm a born lefty turned righty
I have a hair whirlpool and a cowlick
I have big feet (make of that what you will)
I prefer vanilla ice cream to chocolate
I like bright colors (purple & green)

So there, it goes without saying that my 'preference' is for a Lego 'lifestyle'.
Don't let the Lincoln Loggers tell you any different....And tinker toys? Hmmm, what are tinker toys? (Ok, know what they are but never had them.) Sad but true...sheltered childhood...

Growing up in a conservative home I shied away from any toy with tinker in the name. Oh I had the toy, but we kept in the closet.
Now I enjoyed the versatility of legos but the natural feel of Lincoln Logs. All in all I played more with legos.
So if you wan to destroy a forest to play with tinker toys and Lincoln Logs may you find comfort...IN HELL

I agree with you! My dad always liked to tell me stories about how when he was a kid they were so poor that he only had nails to play with. And I say if nails were good enough for dad and for our saviour on the cross they are good enough for us dagnabit!!!! :D

Legos rock though! But only the old ones that were just blocks, not the new ones that are knights or robots. When I was a kid I had the plain block kinds and I made all kinds of stuff with them. I made horses and dogs out of the square blcks, and fish taks out of the little window pieces. I also made prisons with only barred windows and stuck little dolls in them. I played prison and POW camp a lot. I think I was twisted little kid.:)

Lincoln logs are cool but there is only one thing you can make out of them, log cabins. However they do make good sticks to beat little brothers. :p

Dang I never thought of that! Probably a good thing...non-violence principals and all.

Actually, they make nifty little horse barns and corrals...for little pretend one of course!

Oh dear! This is quite the dilemma. I mean, I love the colours, variety, and wide array of uses that LEGO offers, but I do love the organic form and nature of Lincoln Logs. I distinctly remember in my not-so-long-ago childhood playing with the two, and dare I say blending the two. Oh, yes. I even occasionally added the building blocks into the mix. I was quite the rebel. I refused to choose one; I wanted them all to blend together. I suppose I was a building-toy syncretist. I suppose I still am. But in these shifting times, I am assured that a new building toy will arise from the chaos. I know that those elite toy designers will find some allegedly "better" building material. And how then shall we live? Will we reject the old LEGOs and Lincoln Logs? Will we refuse to embrace this new form? Or will we, like the creative beings we are, find a way to join these formerly opposing toys with the new thus bringing forth a new day? You must decide for yourself.

~

PS- Choose wisely, the fate of all toys rests in your hands.

Sometimes I used blocks to make a town for my hot wheels. The town had garages, roads, houses and a church. About that time I ran out of blocks. Then I would tear it all down and make something else. Lego aircraft carrier was my favorite Lego to build. Take a nice flat base and put some bricks on one side for the super structure. Then add some toy planes. I never had lincoln logs except in kindergarten.

BTW, in my previous post I was doing my impersonation of an Amish parent.

I only go to play with lincoln logs at my grandma's house and I really, really like them... but without a doubt, I choose legos!

I love legos!! So did my cat when I got him, they were his favorite thing to bat around as a kitten, until he finally lost most of them.

I can't believe there is even this discussion.

If you read the ancient writings, you would all know that it is fine the to HAVE the toys, but you cannot PLAY with them. Simply look, don't touch.

I have to confess. When I was younger, I did play with the toys. Just once, mind you, and then just touching, not really playing. I have felt so guilty ever since.

I think I will move to Iran. You know they don't even have the toys there.

I actually prefere the Erector Set. My feelings on the matter of toys is that you can't be a REAL lesbian if you didn't have a few building toys!:lol:

Actually folks, I had to settle for the Erector set as I had grandious ideas of what I could build with it. I made all kinds of cool electronic toys with it and things for my Barbie to enjoy with it. Unfortunately, my father had a pretty specific idea of what a girl could and should have to play with so I ended up sneeking my brothers toys. This lent a helping hand in learning how to fight against the male of the species.

I also happened to enjoy my GI Joe, my Evel Kenevial(my mom bought them for me and I kept them hid from dad) and my X-men figurines, Wolverine in particular, always had this thing for leather.....but now I digress.

If I HAD to make a choice from lincoln logs or Legos, hands down, the lowly lego block. I could find a way to pack these suckers into a toy tube or sling shot and make a pretty good replica of a gun and pelt my brother and his obnoxious friends with them.

[QUOTE=u-dog;50668 Colored ones are OK but the plain ones tend to be bigger.[/QUOTE]

Yeah yeah, it's always about the size isn't it. I think it's rather shallow to judge a toy on it's size!
