At least it looks like it's going that way. Have a university job there? Your right to have your partner have health insurance may be taken away soon.

Mark Twain said he wanted to be in Kentucky when the end of the world came, because it is always 20 years behind.

Actually, Kentucky is quite nice, we just can't keep the idiots among us from being elected to public office (or appointed as spiritual leaders, it seems.) And don't think you are safe with a democrat. A Kentucky democrat is often to the right of a northern republican. In the past few months a democrat called global warming a myth and another wants people to be able to carry guns on university campus (when the university rebuked the idea, he responded to the paper by calling them "bastions of liberalism.") Believe it or not, we went through this whole domestic parter benefits fight last year with the Republicans. This year, it is the right-wing democrats who filed the bill.

Fortunately our newly elected governor has vowed to veto the measure should it pass. But the antigay forces are hopeful they have enough votes to override the governor's veto. The university presidents and board must be shaking their heads wondering just what the hell is wrong with this state.

On a personal level, Chris and I are now off the domestic partner benefit plan. He took another position at the hospital that pays more, but doesn't offer retirement or health benefits. So we are getting our own health insurance, which is cheaper than the monthly cost for domestic partner benefits, but provides less adequate in coverage (it's an 80/20 plan.)

And get this, in the mail yesterday we received a copy of our marriage announcement (yes, the one from six months ago!) with the message "What's wrong with this photo? Bet your parents are real proud of you. Just get ready for the big A to get you, AIDS. Can't miss. You both are sickening."

Brother.

Chalk it up to inbreeding - it really doesn't happen too often, but when it does you get these three headed monsters with no brains.
