Hi, my sister told me about this group after I was upset by the Maryland Bishops and particularly the nasty comments my parish was making on its blog against allowing same sex civil unions and against anyone who questioned the bishops. It's a bit tiresome and depressing to hear people telling you that you're being unfaithful to your church by not blindly accepting whatever the magisterium declares.
I'm a 23 year old Roman Catholic living in Silver Spring, outside of DC. There's the general outrage that I feel when reading hurtful and ignorant statements (from people who insist that they're not bigoted, just "faithful") and then there's the more personal reason why I'm outraged. One of my dearest friends refuses to take the Eucharist because he believes that he is in a state of constant sin due to his homosexual nature. He isn't trying to "change" himself, he accepts that he is how he is, but is in a lot of spiritual pain trying to reconcile his deep Catholic faith with his sexual orientation. I have no idea how to help him.
Seeing this group and knowing that there are other faithful Christians out there working to change people's hearts is very hopeful to see. Thank you for your presence. I might try suggesting the group to him and seeing if that comforts him. I would welcome any other ideas. He has so many people who love him and before Benedict was contemplating becoming a priest. I just want to help him be happy.
Anyway, this is long. Thank you for exisiting, you really are a beacon of light.
