View Full Version : What is your favorite way to celebrate Valentine's Day?

It has always been my second favorite, after Christmas. Since childhood, the memories of handmade valentines, candy, parties, etc., just make me GUSH with sentiment. Favorite ways to celebrate?

For me/us, it has changed over the years. This year, exchanging cards and chocolates in our cozy home with my two favorite girls is my bestest way to bring in the holiday.....:love::love::love::love::love::l ove::love:

one year, we went to the Monster Truck Jam!

most of the time, I cook a romantic candlelight meal. I'll be doing that tomorrow evening. last year, family obligations prevented a big meal, but I did make some dessert and had some champagne.

... Valentine's Day. I ignore it. It's just romance legislated by florists and greeting card companies.

I have been known to send Lincoln's Birthday flowers, though. And I do romantic things all year long. It's so much better to do it when Charley least expects it! :D

That it involves amorous activies. What is with men? Us gay guys -this one anyway- loves the candlelight dinner and the flowers (really do love getting flowers), but at the end of the day (or somewhere in between) sex is on my mind.

Not demanded. But greatly appreciated. And reciprocated: It doesn't matter who starts the dance first. Or what the tempo is. It's all a great dance of energy that I want to swim in on the day of Love.

Hey! I'm going to be 50. I want to see if everything still works!

I hope my candor isn't too much for some.

I know the "bad gays" have sex ALL the time, but I didn't know that even the "good gays" were doing the horizontal mambo! :D

My celebration usually involves discounted chocolate the day after. Oh singlehood...

Not my favorite, but most typically? Putting off celebrations for a year when we won't have rehearsal. :(:( Two of our plush animals have been engaged for 4 years, waiting for a Valentine's Day wedding, but DH and I have consistently had rehearsals, either for one or for both of us. Tomorrow, it's just DH. I'll be home alone. :(

So what the hey? - we have reservations for a nice romantic dinner on Mistress Night. People can assume what they will. Ha!

OT to Danny: shut up and stop worrying about the plumbing. I don't know you, but intuition says everything works just fine. ;)

Oh, but proving that it does work is more than half the fun! :D

Anyone notice that many of the men said sex and most of the women said romantic this-that-or-the-other-thing?  Is this one of those Mars/Venus things? :p

Happy V-day to everyone who has or longs for a lover.

Eat way to much candy and feel sick.

Beg people to be my Valentine (although, now I actually have one this year!!)

Get reminded that I somewhat hate my father and think of the people I'm really wishing were there.

But,

:love::love::love:I LOVE Valentine's Day!!! :love::love::love:

Actually, I think I posted the words "amorous activites'. The amorous part indicating something more that sex. What I was trying to get at was this: sex with someone you love? Ain't nothng better. And romance? It makes me blush and I fall all over myself. I think I have two faces: one is Venus and the other is Mars. And right now my head is spinning!

And even if one is single, I believe self-pleasure is highly valuable. And necessary. How can you know what turns someone else on when you don't even know how you respond yourself?

I think the Greeks (or was it the Romans?) got it right.

Know thyself!

Love Thyself!

It all comes from within anyway, right? You can't give what you don't have.

Gee, the most outstanding post to me on this thread was Daniels...how he sneaked out to get his love flowers while his love was wrapping a surprise book for Daniel. That seems really romantic to me, made me just blink...really shatters the sterotype in my mind.

and what about Steve (he is sooo gay). HE ACTUALLY MADE a Valentines day card for his love WITH MOVING PARTS (which seems a real guy thing to do, that and tear down ceilings).

Oh, Danny! Your report is due!!
:reading:;)

Well...I checked the schedule earlier this week and saw that I could have gone to a 7:30 AM class this morning if I was going to make my due date. Ah.....no! But promises (did I promise?) are promises: I'll go. Perhaps this weekend. Speaking of which: there is an article about Hot Nude Yoga in the February issue of OUT, written by a straight man actually. hmmmmmmm.

Paul Honey- you are so sweet! You know, this kind of thing happens to us a lot. We're somehow in sync without trying to be: maybe that's what happens when two people have been together for over a decade. Can't say we are finishing each other's sentences though. We aren't quite like that. But you are right. There is a mental together thing going on that we've alway had: can tell how the other is feeling even at a distance.

Oh.....And you are right....I know Steve: the moving parts thing is essential! ;):D

Wha -? Am I blind? I just went back over this entire thread and I'm still not seeing that anecdote.

So, dinner last night. Good food, good service, nice view. I gave DH a romantic card which I had decorated with valentine's stickers, we went home and celebrated some more at home:love:, and then this morning I woke up to find 3 romantic Valentine's e cards from him.:love::love: Oh and - he sent flowers which arrived yesterday in a red vase. :)

It's nice having someone you love this much. Dh and I share the instinctive empathic feeling thing - and can sometimes just flash-know what, where, or how the other is at a distance.

That said, I never pined about Valentine's day when I was single either. It was just another day, y'know? Now that there's someone, it's a wonderful excuse to make time for each other when the ever-looming Schedule Monster has tended to defeat together-time. :p

starts with lots of soft kisses, continues on with smiles, cards and a gift of a perfect diamond ring. A phone call at work, rushing off to buy flowers and candy, an email here and there. A smile as I pick her up from the train station. A bigger smile and long kiss after she sees her flowers and opens her card. A reservation for our favorite seafood restaurant for tomorrow nite.

Our Friday evening includes oysters and champagne. And then we drive home, playing some R & B, romantic looks, hands touching, longing in our eyes. Remembering our most precious gifts, each other.

And then we go at it like rabbits all night long. You don't have to be a guy to think about amorous activities (sex!) every 30 seconds!:D:love:

Like rabbits. That's good. Rabbits are excellent creatures, and sex is something they're really, really good at. I heartily commend your choice of simile. :agree:

I'm with Daniel. Yes the romance is great, and it all leads to the consummate VD finale! And of course, having such a wonderful partner, lover and mate as my one and only makes it even better!

I was reading about you and hubby exchanging your cards (and plushy), and picturing the two of you in my mind. You and DH really are a great couple and so perfectly matched. :)

Okay, I admit I don't have enough imagination to put the wooden paint stirrer to use (or perhaps I just don't want to??).

But anyway, you sound happy, so congrats on your Valentine's. . . festivities. ;)

I hafta say, this Valentine's stuff is great incentive to just grab your sweetie by the collar and. . . well, 'nuff said.

Okay, I'm assuming the wine was imbibed prior.
I can imagine a use for something that ties.
But I still can't come up with a role for the paint stirrer - - 'course, I've never painted. . . . paint stirrers are long oblong things, right, kinda phallic? I thought ya'll already had that ground covered naturally, therefore, what the heck did y'do with a paint stirrer?

So Steve volunteers that a paint stirrer had a role in the intimate Valentine's festivities, but I get flak for asking how??

No need for painting Keltic, just curious. But maybe it is better left to the imagination and for you guys, I hope whatever was done with the paint stirrers was used for a lot of fun and pleasure for you two. Sounds like it was, so more power to ya!!!
