View Full Version : The flu

I just thought I would ask if anyone else has this strain of the flu that the flu shots totally missed?

Here in Colorado it is just passing from one person to the next. I haven't been this sick in years. I actually remember the last time I felt this bad. I had a stomach flu in 1995, the year I first moved to Colorado. This isn't stomach flu, but it is worse than anything I have had since '95.

Schools are terrible places to work when a virus is spreading around. Southern California wasn't nearly as bad with all the windows open and the fresh air. Here we are so cooped up and sealed inside.

Excuse me now. I am going to go whine a little and feel sorry for myself.

PABS!!
:'(:'(:'(

I'm so sorry, sweetie!

I just heard the other day that there is something horrendous going around.

I am already thinking loving thoughts of you licking this thing swiftly and regaining energy in no time.

Take it really easy. Influenza is no small deal to be taken lightly. It's a significant illness that demands we treat give our bodies every opportunity to rest, sleep, mend, and heal. Have you got someone nearby to go get groceries for you? Frozen meals you can simply zap and eat? I hope so.

Make sure you get plenty of water, especially if you've been having fever.

Go wrap yourself in a blanket and nap.

ah, honey, that's awful. I know. 2 weeks ago, something hit me that my flu shot just didn't take care of. I felt bad for several days.

my allergist says that elementary schools are "teeming cesspools" of germs, and of course, that's where I work everyday!

Whine all you want, Pablo. I wish I could be there to make you soup and help you get better. But if it's all the same to you, keep your darn bug out West, will you? I have a staffer on vacation this week, and the last thing I need to do is come down with the flu. :(

I really feel for you, hon. Take care of yourself and don't you dare try to go back to work before you're well. You won't be helping the kids or your colleagues any by reinfecting yourself or them.

Keeping you in our thoughts and prayers.

:o Hi Pablo, I'm right there with you. I woke up yesterday morning all congested and coughing with chest pain. By the afternoon my body turned into one big useless pile of pain. EVerything hurts, even my skin. Add in a fever, horrible stomach pains and nausea, and did I mention that my head feels about to explode? I would totally feel for you if I could get past my own sorry state.

Luckily, I do have someone to take care of me. Not an easy patient, I prefer to be left alone for the most part, but check in often. It's confusing...

Hope you feel better soon (hope I feel better soon). The weather in CA is gorgeous so it's making it even harder to be in bed!:love:

Oh no!!!!!!

Aww, T, once you recover from this you will ALWAYS look back on this as the most memorable February in years!

Oh T, honey, it sounds like you're in misery. Oh honey, ((((( Tdogg ))))) :(:love::love:

Now, you too go rest, sleep, heal, sip water and herbal tea. If you don't start feeling better by tomorrow, get to a doctor and get checked out. Don't fool around with the flu, it's a pretty big deal although we all like to think of it as a mere inconvenience.

I'm so sorry to ALL of you have gotten it..:pray::pray::pray::pray:

So far, I'm feeling really lucky... our family didn't get flu shots and none of us have gotten hit with it yet, but it's still going around, so keep your fingers crossed!

I didn't get shot either... my folks did, but I didn't. They got it, I didn't. That kinda makes me wonder...

Yeah... I was starting to think about that... I know a LOT of people who got the shot and got the flu... but many of us who didn't are missing us.

Pablo! i'm so sorry to hear that you've caught the bug that seems to have taken up residence in the Rocky Mountain area.

At our home we're finally over it...we hope! The one going around Albuquerque lasts for weeks and has at least two false recoveries for most folks. Wes got the shot, i didn't. His flu lasted as long as mine but was less severe. i got it first, then it just seemed like we kept passing it back & forth.

Drink lots of fluids & get plenty of rest. Mucinex helps with the chest congestion when that takes off.

Get better soon!!!!!

Everything hurts, even my skin. Add in a fever, horrible stomach pains and nausea, and did I mention that my head feels about to explode?

Almost everyone who has had this flu makes that comment about their skin hurting. I was laying on the couch yesterday asking, "How is it possible that the skin on the back of my hands hurts?"

From the comments on this thread it seems like this is more of a western US affliction. Don't worry, however, just like the weather, it starts in the west, but we always ship things east. And Scott, we always just float things down the Rio Grande to you. (I can see the Rio Grande from the front porch.) No need to say thanks, really.

I went to school today, but gave up and went home at lunch. When I got up this morning, I thought I was better than I actually was. (We had 8 students out of 29 absent.) All the teachers have gotten it - me the worst. (I think men are wimpier when it comes to things like this.) I worry about my parents. A flu virus can be deadly for the elderly. So far they have both avoided it.

Really, seriously, I am a bad patient; always guilt myself into going back to work before my body is ready. Even if you feel ready, the kind of symptoms that you have had indicate that you probably need a good couple of more days of strict rest. I MEAN IT......:love:

As for your parents, I worry about mine as well; just keep reminding them to not get run down, and to avoid contained germs as much as possible...
How you ask? I have no idea. But, if they are generally healthy they will probably fare well anyway.

Feel better, bud. PLEASE, PLEASE rest.:love:

2 weeks ago, I took the day off because of having this flu. I was at my worst on Sunday, took Monday off, but went back on Tuesday. I think I could have benefitted by taking not only Tuesday, but Wednesday as well. I really did not feel close to being healthy until Thursday evening.

Rest, Pablo, Rest!

I am so sorry! how aweful! I am in Michigan, and the geriatric nursing facility I work in is starting to have an epidemic also. I haven't caught it yet but I did have a sore throat for a few days and headache. I keep washing my hands and also praying I don't get it. We are not closed to admiting others yet but I am sure this is next.

Unfortunately, my favorite patient ended up going to the hospital instead of home and I have heard she is really sick and may die because of the flu.

My poor wife got real sick about 2 weeks ago, with a really bad stomach virus, flu whatever you wanna call it. It was so bad, the doctor thought it might be appendicitis. Yikes!!! Turns out it wasn't, but she was out for an entire week. And whoever said if you feel better, go back to bed, was right. She got sick on a Saturday, and by Wednesday she felt normal again, but uh oh on Thursday had a 102 fever and diarrhea again. Thank heaven it broke that night, and by the next Saturday she was ok, but very weak. Luckily, I didn't get it. Still don't know why.

I, like Keltic, work in a public school and they are "teeming cesspools" of germs. I wash my hands constantly and keep a bottle of hand sanitizer on my desk. When I get home, I am in the shower. I feel absolutely gross.

My wife is a physical therapist and she just leaves her shoes in the foyer, she doesn't even bring them in the house. I can only imagine what she walks through.

It is a wonder we aren't all dead. Thank God for white blood cells and healthy immune systems, otherwise we would be dead....

Sorry you feel bad, Pablo, it will get better, I promise... Just rest and take it easy and in no time, you will get your color back and feel human again.

I am an OT and I just doff when I get home, leave my shoes at the door(outside, its really cold here in MI, my coat too)and quick jump into the shower to wash everything. I figure the sub zero windchill will kill whatever is lurking on my coat and shoes, and the rest will wash off. I don't even let the kids or my wife touch me before the shower.

The Rio Grande is a five minute walk from our front gate. Feel free to send a message in a bottle any time. And don't worry about floating your Colorado viruses down here- we're already catching the downdraft from Los Alamos National Labs. :D

Hope you're feeling better. :)

I'm always stupid... I speak to soon. I don't know if it's the flu or just a cold, but I feel horrible! :x

Oh hon! Take your temp, if you have a fever it's definitely the flu. Stay home, sleep sleep sleep and then sleep some more. Take tylenol or motrin for the fever if you have one, and drink LOTS of water.

I hope it's just a cold. I'll send some prayers up and send you some hugs. Take care of yourself!
