Well, duh.

MOUNT LAUREL, N.J. - A commission established to study same-sex civil unions in New Jersey has found in its first report that civil unions create a "second-class status" for gay couples, rather than giving them equality.

Story here: http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080217/ap_on_re_us/gay_marriage

I think it's very interesting that they have an official study proving what we've been saying all along - MLK, Jr. said it during the Civil Rights movement of the sixties, and it's still true: Separate is not equal and can never be.

Also, another part of the article states, "A conservative Princeton group, the National Organization for Marriage, has aired radio commercials that say allowing gay marriage would undermine some religious teachings that homosexuality is wrong."

This is another example of why I think, OMG, somebody please stop the political-church machine before it gets any bigger! It reminds me frighteningly of a statement I heard Huckabee make (and if he wins presidency I swear I'm moving to Canada) that he is not of the opinion that it is even possible to involve one's religious convictions too heavily in one's political actions - he's stated outright that he wants to rewrite the Constitution to match the Bible - which means his own interpretation of the Bible, I'm sure.

God, save us from your "followers"!

Still, this is looking good for New Jersey, especially since the governor says he's willing to sign gay marriage into law as soon as the November elections are up! (I don't blame him for wanting to wait for that, either!)

Huckabee will not win the presidency. He won't even win the nomination.
You don't have to pack for Canada. :)

The religionists are losing now - it's my hypothesis that we'll see their political power erode a great deal this year.

Let's hope and pray like everything that Huckabee doesn't win, because if he did, I am with MJ, I would get my ass to Canada and in a hurry. That man would ruin the Constitution and make this a theocracy. Yikes!:eek::eek::eek:

I haven't followed the news on this in a week or so, so perhaps something has changed, but last I saw, they were saying that even if Huckabee wins all the remaining contests, he can't catch up to McCain. It looks like McCain has actually sealed the R nomination.

It would take a complete and total miracle the likes of which this world has never seen before, or some blatant, creative in-your-face fraud for Huckabee to win. While IMO John McCain is the lesser of the Republican evils (not disrespect to any of our Republican forumers), I feel that neither of the Democrats would have a problem winning the presidency over the McCain.

While I don't think either Clinton or Obama are particularly pro-gay, I feel they would be likely to do away with DADT and be more apt to not veto the hate crimes legislation, among other progresses. We will certainly be light years ahead of where we've been under Bush. Not to mention, of course, other general issues such as the war, which I believe under either Democrat will come to an eventual end.

Huckabee at this point is just throwing his money down the toilet.

Hubby reads all the polls:p. He told me yesterday that the latest polls show Clinton LOSING to McCain by several points, but Obama WINNING over McCain also by several points. Iow, that McCain's chances of winning the presidency are better against Clinton than they are against Obama.
