Folks,

What are your favorite resources for purchasing books online? Other than amazon? I seem to recall Daniel recommending a favorite book seller.

Votes, anyone?

Thanks.

Half-Price Books http://www.halfpricebooks.com has a web site with a store locater. They don't seem to have a method for on-line ordering yet. They do have stores in Arizona.

I think Daniel has recommended http://www.abebooks.com/, and I certainly do. They have a large network of private sellers of new and used books. The advantage is being able to buy used books with accurate decriptions of condition (my experience at least) as well as support small independent businesses.

I've used abebooks.com a great deal (pun alert). Have something of a library because of them.....and from all over the world. The data base (and I 'collect' in a narrow field- vocal pedagogy) is the best I've found of all the sources. The biggies like B&N and Amazon add a mark-up that is....how can I say this...offensive to my sensibilities.

And on abebooks, if you can't find what you are looking for, you can create a 'want'. I've gotten very valuable (to me anyway) 'wants' for very little money. In fact, I plan on making an addendum to my will because I have books that the New York Public Library at Lincoln Center (research) doesn't have- and I want them to have them so others can benefit.

I haven't had a bad experience with abebooks. And I've gotten books from all over the world: Australia, Germany, Italy, Austria....you name it.

Oversea's books can take a while to get to one, but hey, in my experience, it has been worth the wait.

What can I tell you? Part of me is a library rat!

There is a book I'm wanting to purchase and opted not to buy it at B&N (although I do admire that store for having a decent G&L section, ironically just on the other side of the Christian section!). I was planning on checking Amazon.com, but thanks to this thread, I'm going to look at the other websites presented here.

You all may have saved me a bit of $$ and made a new customer for the businesses!
